What exactly is a drug called beto? What is the composition and exact indications? These are long-acting tablets. The active substance is metoprolol succinate. The tablets are available in several sizes: 23,75 mg, 47,5 mg, 95 mg, 142,5 mg or 190 mg metoprolol succinate. Additionally, they contain sucrose and lactose.
Beto is an agent whose active substance causes the inhibition or minimization of the effect of catecholamines on the work of the heart. Metoprolol, which is the main substance of the drug, not only lowers blood pressure, but also slows down the heart rate and reduces heart contractility and cardiac output. Thus, the main indication for the use of the drug is primarily arterial hypertension. What are the other indications for taking the drug?
Beto – indications
Beto is a drug whose main substance is metoprolol, it belongs to a group of drugs called beta-blockers. The agent is prescribed to patients who have been diagnosed with arterial hypertension, supraventricular tachycardia, any other heart disorders, angina pectoris. Beto is also administered when there is a risk of death due to cardiovascular disorders, as well as in the acute phase of a heart attack. Cardiologists decide to administer the drug in the event of heart palpitations. Beto can also be administered for migraines, migraines with aura. It is a drug that can be given to children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 who have been diagnosed with arterial hypertension.
Tablets are taken orally, they have a prolonged effect. The dosage depends of course on the recommendations of the attending physician, but the most common is 1 dose a day, preferably the drug should be swallowed during breakfast. The tablets should not be divided, chewed, and swallowed whole with more water. You must not change the doses yourself.
Beto is a drug that should not be discontinued suddenly, nor should you change the doses prescribed by your doctor yourself. Stopping treatment too abruptly may increase the symptoms of heart problems. Therefore, you should do it gradually over a period of about two weeks.
Beto – precautions
Tell your specialist doctor if you are taking other medications. Particular care must be taken when taking beto and antihypertensive agents simultaneously with other drugs that lower blood pressure, class I antiarrhythmics, sympathomimetic drugs, calcium antagonists, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
Like any beto agent, it is a drug that can cause side effects, of course, not all users of the drug may experience them. The side effects of using the drug include:
- bradycardia
- dizziness, headache
- shortness of breath
- palpitations
- shortness of breath especially with increased physical exertion
- balance disorders
- digestive system disorders
- pain in the chest
- increased sweating
- sensory disturbance
- skin changes
- weakening of concentration
- depression
The drug must not be used by pregnant women, unless the attending physician assesses the risk and determines that it is necessary to take the drug. In this case, constant check-ups are necessary.
