Betadrin WZF – indications, dosage, contraindications, interactions, side effects

Betadrin WZF is a drug used in family medicine and allergology to treat rhinitis. The preparation affects the respiratory system and has decongestant properties. Betadrin WZF is available as nasal drops and can be obtained without a prescription.

Indications for the use of the drug Betadrin WZF

Betadrin WZF is a combined preparation containing a 1st generation HXNUMX receptor antagonist and an imidazole derivative with a sympathomimetic effect. It is administered in acute inflammation of the nasal mucosa, exacerbation of chronic seasonal rhinitis and perennial allergic rhinitis or colds.

Dosage: Adults and children after the age of 6 1-3 drops into each nostril not more frequently than every 4-6 hours, usually not longer than 3-5 days.

Betadrin WZF and contraindications and warnings

Contraindications to the use of Betadrin WZF are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or imidazole derivatives,
  2. angle-closure glaucoma,
  3. hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic drugs.

Betadrin WZF – warnings

  1. The preparation is intended for nasal use only.
  2. If symptoms worsen or do not improve after 3-5 days, a doctor should be consulted.
  3. Do not use in children under 6 years of age.
  4. Packaging for use by one person only.
  5. The use of Betadrin WZF requires special care and consultation with a doctor in the case of: increased intraocular pressure; cardiovascular diseases (e.g., ischemic heart disease, hypertension); diabetes; overactive thyroid gland; pheochromocytoma of the adrenal gland; prostatic hyperplasia; elderly people. Benzalkonium chloride contained in the preparation may cause irritation of the nasal mucosa.
  6. Using Betadrin WZF for a longer period than recommended or using it too frequently may lead to secondary rhinitis and its irreversible damage.
  7. The preparation should not be used in pregnant and breastfeeding women due to the lack of data on the safety of its use; the preparation can be used during this period only if, in the doctor’s opinion, the benefit for the mother outweighs the potential risk for the child.
  8. In therapeutic doses, the drug does not impair the ability to drive motor vehicles.
  9. People driving motor vehicles should be especially careful as the drug may cause side effects that may impair psychophysical fitness (e.g. dizziness and headaches).

Betadrin WZF – interactions

Do not use with MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants due to the risk of a significant increase in blood pressure.

Betadrin WZF – side effects

Systemic effects may very rarely occur: increased heart rate, increase in blood pressure, palpitations, headache, nausea, insomnia, tremors, weakness, fatigue, increased blood glucose levels. Treatment should be discontinued in the event of the above-mentioned side effects. The use of the drug for a longer period than recommended or the use of high doses may lead to secondary drug-induced rhinitis manifested by redness, swelling and runny nose.
