It has been proven that beta-glucan can have a beneficial effect on the body in various ways. Scientists believe that it may have an effect on lowering blood cholesterol levels. Research on this issue and attempts to explain it are still ongoing, but some hypotheses are emerging about it. It is possible that beta-glucan binds bile acids, which inhibits their absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore must be excreted from the body. Excess fat, including bad cholesterol, is effectively removed from the body, and in addition beta-glucan creates a film on the intestine that prevents the excess from being absorbed.

Another action beta-glucan is to lower blood sugar levels, which helps to prevent overweight and obesity. Beta-glucan prolongs the action of the hormone responsible for the feeling of satiety, and thanks to the stickiness of fiber, the stomach is emptied a little slower. This helps to control the appetite, and thus means that we eat less food, less calories, and as a result – we do not gain weight. Speaking of the digestive system, it is worth mentioning the regulation of intestinal function – beta-glucan, as well as fiber itself, increases the frequency of bowel movements, thanks to which the body does not retain the remains of undigested food.
