Sore throat – with this symptom, each of us met at least several times in life, starting from early childhood. We emphasize right away that this is not an independent disease, but only a symptom, one of the manifestations of various infectious (less often other) diseases. Sore throat occurs due to acute or exacerbation of a chronic inflammatory process in the pharynx, tonsils, inferior nasal concha, adenoid or larynx.
The severity of sore throat varies greatly – from subtle soreness when swallowing solid food and perspiration, dryness and discomfort in the throat, to excruciating, severe pain that provokes nausea and general malaise, high fever. The causes can be both SARS and childhood infections, various microbes, including extremely dangerous ones – meningococcus, Haemophilus influenzae or streptococcus, pneumococcus.
By itself, a sore throat is a signal from the body that an inflammatory process is developing in the nasopharynx, which can affect the adenoids and tonsils. Usually this sensation is accompanied by reddening of the posterior wall of the pharynx, uvula and tonsils, swelling, the appearance of granularity of the posterior wall or raids on the surface of the tonsils, the release of mucus flowing from the adenoid.
Before choosing tablets for sore throat for adults, it is worth understanding the causes of pain and assessing additional symptoms and manifestations that may indicate the nature of the disease. Often this is not easy to do and you need to see a doctor in order to accurately diagnose and choose the right treatment. This is especially important when the pain is severe, accompanied by prolonged fever, a cough that “falls” down into the bronchi and general malaise. It is important to pay attention to the condition of the lymph nodes under the jaw, behind the ears, on the neck, note nasal congestion and skin changes.
Usually, in the complex treatment of colds and other diseases for which a sore throat is typical, doctors recommend tablets, sprays or lozenges, rinse solutions with antimicrobial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory components. In addition, drugs often also contain local anesthetics, which only suppress pain, but do not affect its causes and do not eliminate the inflammatory process. Is it possible to choose the best pills for sore throat, and what characteristics should I look for?

How to choose pills for sore throats for adults
Usually, to combat sore throats, tablets are used, which must be slowly dissolved in the mouth to relieve discomfort. These drugs can only anesthetize if they contain anesthetics that stop the flow of pain impulses from the mucous membranes, or they can stop the development of the disease if they contain antiseptic and anti-inflammatory compounds.
Before you start taking these pills, you need to consult a doctor and determine the correct, accurate diagnosis. If it is severe and acute pain that occurs with tonsillitis, these drugs will only supplement the main treatment, in parallel with taking antibiotics.
When choosing drugs, you need to pay attention to the active substances – what effect they will have. Usually drugs have a complex effect due to several components at once.
Another important point is that the composition may contain sweeteners, which are important to consider for people with diabetes, as well as dyes, flavors and preservatives that can provoke allergies. This is important to consider for those people who have previously had reactions to such compounds.
If sore throat is accompanied by fever, general malaise, weakness, you need to use drugs of combined action. They both reduce pain and affect fever, inflammation and strengthen the immune system.
