Back pain is familiar to almost all of us. It can occur after training or exertion, with sudden movements or prolonged sitting at the computer. Everyone has different severity and localization of pain. This is not a single disease, it is only a symptom of various pathologies of the skeleton or soft tissues that support the spine. Mild back pain after exertion or overwork usually resolves without treatment. If this is an acute pathology or an exacerbation of chronic back problems, medications may be required, which must be selected together with the doctor, focusing on the causes of pain, the duration of the condition and age, comorbidities and possible contraindications to taking medications.
If your back pain does not improve with other forms of treatment (physiotherapy, rest, heat or cold, exercise), your doctor may prescribe medication. The choice of medication depends on the severity of back pain and location. Possible use:

The doctor can select different groups of funds. For example, medications called analgesics can help relieve pain. Other drugs, called muscle relaxants, can help relax tense muscles that cause pain. If your back pain is caused by arthritis, your doctor may give you medication to reduce inflammation and also make your back pain less intense. 2. Diclofenac
The drug is produced both in the form of local preparations – creams, ointments or gels with the active substance, patches, and tablet forms (including prolong capsules), rectal suppositories and injections.
Local forms of the drug are sold in pharmacies without a prescription.
The main active ingredient is diclofenac sodium. This tool belongs to the group of NSAIDs, has a powerful analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect, can reduce body temperature.
The drug is indicated for the treatment of:
- back pain caused by manifestations of various types of arthritis, spondylitis and arthropathy;
- pain on the background of osteoarthritis;
- problems with the spine – sciatica, lumbago, myalgia and neuralgia, radiculopathy, ossalgia;
- postoperative pain during operations in the back and spine;
- back pain caused by pelvic problems in women.
The drug has a symptomatic effect, suppresses the inflammatory process and pain impulses during the period of use, but does not inhibit the development of the pathology itself and does not affect its causes.

3. Ibuprofen
The drug is available in various forms – suspensions, capsules, tablets and topical forms (gels, creams or ointments). All dosage forms of the drug can be bought at pharmacies without a prescription.
The main active ingredient is ibuprofen, a drug from the NSAID group, which has a pronounced antipyretic and analgesic effect, has anti-inflammatory activity. For mild forms of pain, the use of local forms of the drug is recommended, for more pronounced forms, the medicine is taken orally.
Indications:
- back pain of a muscular, articular nature;
- various inflammatory pathologies accompanied by back pain;
- periodic female pain that occurs in the lumbar region;
- as part of combination therapy for various back problems – sciatica, lumbago, myalgia and neuralgia, ridiculopathy, ossalgia.
The drug has a number of contraindications that limit its use in certain groups of patients. These are allergies to the components of the drug, bronchial asthma, nasal polyposis and intolerance to aspirin and other NSAIDs, ulcerative and erosive lesions of the digestive tube, bleeding from the digestive tract, severe liver damage and hepatitis, excess potassium in the blood, bleeding, hemophilia, severe heart problems. It is forbidden to take after 32 weeks of pregnancy. The shortest possible course of administration is recommended, a combination of therapy to reduce the risk of side effects.
4. Milgamma
Combined drug, which is produced in the form of ampoules with a solution for injection and tablets in the form of Milgamma compositum.
The tablet form is dispensed without a doctor’s prescription. The composition of the injectable preparation includes cyanocobalamin (B12), Lidocaine (anesthetic), pyridoxine (B6) and thiamine (B1).
In tablet form, there are only two components – benfotiamine with pyridoxine (B6).
It belongs to the group of vitamin preparations, has a neurotrophic effect, improves neuromuscular conduction, enhances the action of NSAIDs, is used as part of combination therapy, courses that begin with injections and then switch to tablets.
Indications for admission:
- neuralgic disorders leading to back pain;
- complex therapy for radiculopathy, osteochondrosis, sciatica, lumbalgia.
There are few contraindications to taking the drug – this is an allergy to the components of the drug, breastfeeding and all trimesters of pregnancy, age up to 18 years, diabetes mellitus.
5. Dexalgin
Produced in the form of ampoules, tablets and granules.
An effective analgesic that belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) with analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects.
It is currently the only OTC product available that contains the active ingredient dexketoprofen and has been developed using modern technology.
Begins to act in 30 minutes.
Indicated for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate acute pain such as musculoskeletal pain, dysmenorrhea and toothache.
Contraindications:
- peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
- history of gastrointestinal bleeding;
- Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis;
- severe violations of the liver and kidneys;
- bronchial asthma;
- severe heart failure;
- treatment of pain syndrome in coronary artery bypass grafting;
- coagulation disorders;
- childhood;
Caution should be used in elderly patients (over 65 years).
Taken orally during meals. Simultaneous ingestion of food slows down the absorption of dexketoprofen, therefore, in case of acute pain, it is recommended to use the drug at least 30 minutes before meals.
6. Nalgesine
Available in tablets. The active ingredient is naproxen.
Belongs to the group of NSAIDs. It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects.
Reduces pain, including joint pain at rest and during movement, morning stiffness and swelling of the joints, increases range of motion. The anti-inflammatory effect occurs by the end of the 1st week of treatment.
Indications:
- rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, spondylitis, articular syndrome with exacerbation of gout;
- pain in the spine, neuralgia, myalgia, traumatic inflammation of the soft tissues and the musculoskeletal system;
- as an aid in infectious and inflammatory diseases of the ENT organs, adnexitis, primary dysmenorrhea, headache and toothache.
The dosage regimen is set individually, taking into account the severity of the course of the disease.
Released without a prescription. Contraindicated in children under 12 years of age, patients with erosive and ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, with severe liver dysfunction.
Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation.
