- Should you buy an expensive keyboard?

- Is the difference between mechanics and membrane so important?
Now it is difficult to find a person who does not use a computer keyboard in one form or another. This versatile input device solves a wide range of tasks, both entertainment and work. Even users of laptops and touch devices with an integrated data entry interface resort to using a discrete keyboard, since the features of embedded solutions may not suit or cover the entire range of existing tasks. For example, ultrabooks usually do not have a Num block (usually located on the right side of the keyboard with numbers), which reduces usability, and typing a large amount of text at high speed on a touchpad is a nightmare.
This article will discuss the features of choice, differences and the most popular devices from the class of discrete keyboards. The main selection criterion is quite obvious – the tasks that the device should solve and personal preferences.

1. Logitech Corded Keyboard K280e Black USB (from 1016 rubles)
Classic membrane keyboard at an adequate price. It will cover with a margin the requirements of the average user, while not hitting the pocket hard. The device is wired, connected via USB. At the same time, it has an excellent feature – moisture protection. Perfect for those who like to play or work at the computer.
2. A4Tech KV-300H dark Gray USB (from 1539 rubles)
Ultra-thin wired keyboard equipped with a scissor mechanism. Made in metallic color, the keys are matte and not easily soiled. A distinctive feature is the presence of a USB port on the keyboard itself. That is, you can connect a mouse or some external devices to it, thereby unloading the computer panel and making it more convenient to arrange cables.
3. OKLICK 969G SHOTGUN Black USB (from 1693 rubles)
One of the cheapest mechanical keyboards on the market. The model does not have an additional block with numbers, it is quite short, it is connected using a USB cable. Its main feature is a bright LED backlight, however, without the possibility of setting (you can only turn it off completely).
4. Logitech K380 Multi-Device Black Bluetooth (from 2130 rubles)
Compact membrane keyboard from a well-known brand, positioned as a multi-platform. Works via Bluetooth interface, suitable for both a laptop or tablet, and for a PC (including Mac). The unusual shape of the keys – they are round. The shortcomings of the model are hidden in the advantages – the UK layout, aimed at Apple users, for a Windows user it will be slightly unusual and possibly inconvenient.
5. A4Tech Bloody B810R Black USB (from 3606 rubles)
Wired mechanical keyboard with a bright and catchy design, equipped with backlit keys. It is positioned more like a game. The kit comes with official software – Key Dominator, which allows you to fine-tune the backlight profiles, there is even the ability to create animation. An unusual font of letters on the keys stands out – it looks stylish, of course, but if you don’t know how to write blindly, difficulties may await you.
6. Logitech G G213 Prodigy Black USB (from 3 rubles)
Relatively inexpensive “gaming” with all the bells and whistles. Customizable backlight with work areas, protection from water and crumbs, tilt adjustment, for convenient positioning of the hands and wrist rest. Some users complain about sticky or non-working keys, but Logitech provides feedback and warranty support.
7. Gembird KBW-1 Silver USB (from 1023 rubles)
Despite its cost, this keyboard model is wireless, and the device itself is not just a membrane, but a scissor one. The buttons feel a little stiff to many users, and long keys like the spacebar may not work when pressed on the edge. But, given the cost and other characteristics, this is forgivable.
8. Logitech G G413 Carbon USB (от 5026 рублей)
This is one of the most controversial best computer keyboards of 2022 from a familiar PC accessory company. The case is made of aluminum alloy, type – mechanics (Romero-G switches), there is an adjustable red backlight. The height can be adjusted to your liking. Despite the relatively high cost and gaming positioning, many users complain about “phantom” double-clicks, fragility of the keys and their too easy movement, as well as a low number of simultaneous clicks, which at such a cost is at least strange.
9. HyperX Alloy Origins Core Black USB (from 7856 rubles)
A keyboard designed specifically for gamers from HyperX, a company known for products and components for gaming systems. The device is mechanical, there is no NUM-block. The case is aluminum, the kit comes with a removable Type-C wire (check with the seller for the package). There are no special bells and whistles in the device, but given the overall quality, you can do without them. The device is characterized by excellent key travel, pressing features and workmanship.
10. Logitech K580 (from 4430 rubles)
One of the best keyboards of 2022, it’s more of an office solution than a gaming one. The mechanism is scissor. Despite the compactness of the device, it is equipped with a NUM-block and a convenient “pocket” for a phone or tablet. Wireless connection is via a USB-receiver Unifying or Bluetooth, compatible with devices from Apple, Microsoft and Android.
How to choose a keyboard for a computer
For advice, we turned to Maria Vikulova – a specialist who works a lot at the keyboard. She will tell you about the difference between the keyboards she uses at home and those she works with.
Should you buy an expensive keyboard?
Yes and no, it all depends on your requirements. Of course, expensive keyboards are usually better than cheap ones, but there is a certain limit to your capabilities, beyond which you will not need characteristics. For example, you are a professional gamer or a copywriter – your pressing speed and accuracy are extremely high, cheap keyboards will not suit you, simply because they will not keep up with you. Well, if you are an ordinary user who browses social networks, chats with friends and sometimes plays, you will simply have nothing to use such a keyboard and you will simply overpay.
Is NUM-block important?
When working – it will almost certainly come in handy, working with numbers with it is much more convenient and faster. For home use – to taste. Without a digital block, the models are more compact and lighter, so if you are going to move the device or you have little free space, this is an opportunity to save space. In addition, if you do not understand why this block is needed and it is not used, then you should choose keyboards without it – why are extra parts needed?
Is the difference between mechanics and membrane so important?
In modern models, the difference is not so great. A good membrane keyboard, especially one with a scissor mechanism, will be just as responsive as an average keyboard. Most likely, you simply will not notice the difference, of course, if you are not a professional. Mechanics – old-school, lamp, many compare it with a modern typewriter. Membrane is on average cheaper and quieter, so if you don’t need to hear clicks, but there are no special requirements, you should pay attention to the latter one – and save money and you won’t notice much difference. Naturally, when buying a quality keyboard.
