Best electric scooters for adults 2022

Contents

Endless traffic jams and crush in the subway are tired of most residents of megacities, so many people use scooters, especially electric models have become fashionable. KP got acquainted in detail with the features of these devices and made a rating of the top 22 best electric scooters.

A new type of transport, which is rapidly gaining popularity among the inhabitants of Our Country, can increasingly be found on the streets of large cities. The electric scooter is based on the classic scooter. Its main difference is the presence of an electric motor. The device is ideal not only for walking and relaxing, but also for regular trips to work and on business. Separately, it should be noted the compactness of the new mode of transport.

The disadvantages of this device include the inconvenience of using in the winter season and rainy weather. Some even argue that you shouldn’t ride an electric scooter when it’s raining. However, this is not entirely true, since most manufacturers provide for moisture protection and sealing of most of the most important transport components. So the main concern is physical discomfort, not safety.

The principle of operation of an electric scooter is quite simple. The battery drives the motor, the operating parameters of which depend on the controller. The latter is guided by the driver’s commands and the gyroscope. Management is carried out using a handle mounted on the steering wheel. In addition, the latest models are equipped with a recovery function: when you move not due to the operation of the electric motor, but, for example, go downhill or push off with your foot, the wheels rotate freely and do not consume battery power, but rather recharge it. This feature allows you to save more energy. Below we will take a closer look at the features and characteristics of new products in 2022.

How to choose an electric scooter for an adult?

Choosing an electric scooter is not such a complicated procedure as it might seem at first glance. However, there are a number of features that must be taken into account. For a detailed consultation, Healthy Food Near Me turned to sales assistant of the Moscow KUGOO store Stanislav Zemlyansky.

Initially, you should decide for what purpose the device is purchased. So, it can be regular walks, commuting, cross-country travel or trips out of town. Based on this information, the weight of the device, wheel size, battery capacity and case type will depend.

  • Dimensions and weight. To date, the variety of models on the market varies from devices weighing 6 kg to 60 kg. The most optimal will be an electric scooter that weighs from 15 to 20 kg, the expert believes. It is desirable that it be foldable. Such parameters will make it possible not only to easily transport the device, but also to move mechanically in the event that the battery runs out.
  • speed characteristics. Our rating contains models whose speed can reach from 20 to 60 km / h. This indicator is affected by the weight of the rider and the power of the electric motor. The optimal device will be one that is able to travel within 30-35 km / h. At this speed, it is quite easy to drive a vehicle, and the risk of an accident is minimal. Above this mark, there is already a serious danger, and there is also a need to use personal protective equipment.
  • Battery. The battery capacity directly affects how far you will travel without recharging. Some Chinese manufacturers, such as e-scooter, offer devices that can travel from 5 to 8 km. This is a very small indicator. When choosing a device, you must rely on the fact that its charge is enough to overcome at least 25-30 km.
  • Size and type of wheels. Each model has a different wheel diameter. It can be from 4 to 14 inches. The optimal size will be 8-10. These wheels are perfect for both city driving and cross-country travel. Large wheels will only add extra weight to your device. As for the type of wheels, today there are three of them. Pneumatic – the softest. They cushion when driving over bumps. Cast – quite hard, but they can not be pierced. Perforated are cast with holes. They are somewhat lighter.
  • The presence of illumination. When driving at night at a speed of 25-30 km / h, the presence of headlights or LEDs is a must. Be sure to consider this before purchasing.

Popular questions and answers

The editors of the KP asked to answer the most frequent questions of readers Maxim Karaseva, director of the private label division of the TFN group of companies.

What speed can an electric scooter reach?

The motor power is responsible for the maximum speed of the scooter, but the speed can also be limited at the software level.

At the moment, all kicksharing scooters (a system of short-term rental of electric and conventional scooters) and most of the scooters in the consumer market are limited to a speed of 25 km/h. For kicksharing, this restriction is part of the business rules, and failure to comply with these rules leads to legal liability. In the consumer market, the speed of scooters is limited for two reasons.

The first reason are the technical capabilities of the scooter. The motor power of most scooters is 250W-350W. A 250W scooter cannot physically accelerate faster than 25km/h. Scooters with a motor power of 350W can accelerate to 30 km / h, but, as a rule, there is a limitation on such scooters at the software level. Today, more than half of the electric scooter market is occupied by models with power up to 350W.

The second reason is an automatic speed limit that electric scooter manufacturers pre-install in China, because most of the devices are now made for European countries. Strict speed limits for electric scooters have long been in place in the EU countries, so Chinese manufacturers immediately flash scooters and supply already flashed devices with a speed limit of up to 25 km/h. You can get a scooter without a preset limit if you discuss this condition with the supplier in advance.

Of course, the speed of 25-30 km / h is not the limit. There are more powerful models on the market, for example, a scooter with a motor power of 6000W. It can accelerate up to 90 km/h. To date, the maximum speed of an electric scooter is 95-100 km / h. Unfortunately, according to statistics, it is electric scooters with a powerful motor that are mostly objects of negative news feeds, said Maxim Karasev.

Do you need a license to drive an electric scooter?

This is a difficult question. For several years now, amendments to the traffic rules have been worked out, which should finally determine the status of the electric scooter and its driver from the point of view of the law. Legislators plan to introduce the term SIM (personal mobility aid), requirements and regulations for the use of an electric scooter, as well as the requirement for a driver’s license.

Now the rights to use an electric scooter are not required, but a precedent has already appeared with the recognition of an electric scooter as a vehicle when leaving the roadway. Within a year or two, we are expecting an update of the traffic rules and the introduction of SIM in the jurisdiction of the Federation.

How to properly charge an electric scooter?

Each scooter comes with an instruction manual, which describes how to properly charge the device and store it. In order for the scooter battery to serve for a long time and properly, it is important to prevent moisture, hypothermia or overheating of the device. The temperature in the storage room must not fall below 0 degrees, and the scooter must not be left in direct sunlight. All this can lead to damage to the battery and malfunctions in its operation, up to ignition.

Leaving the scooter unattended while charging is also not recommended. After charging, be sure to close the connector for connecting the charging cable so that moisture does not get in when using the scooter. As soon as the scooter is charged, it should be immediately disconnected from the network, the expert advises.

What are the main mistakes when driving an electric scooter?

The main mistake is the carelessness of the electric scooter user. You need to know how to use an electric scooter, like any other vehicle. Many owners neglect the requirements that are described in the instructions, for example, they ride without special equipment and a helmet, do not learn how to brake and start off properly, cross the road on a scooter, play checkers with pedestrians, get distracted by smartphones, etc.

Owners of powerful scooters should take this especially seriously, because falling from them without protection is fraught with very serious injuries. The more experience a user has of driving a scooter, the more empty self-confidence, which can lead to sad consequences, warned Maxim Karasev.
