Berotec is an aerosol used in diseases of the upper respiratory tract and asthma. The drug works immediately after administration, but there are a number of restrictions that should be taken into account when administering it.
Berotec – action
Berotec is in the form of an aerosol. Its main active ingredient is fenoterol, which widens the airways. For this reason, it is most often used in patients with bronchial asthma, as well as in people with reversible spasms of the airways, including obstructive bronchitis.
Berotec – dosage
The dosage of Berotec should be carefully determined by the doctor. Adults can take 1-2 puffs up to eight times a day. If two doses did not help with an asthma attack, the patient should consult a doctor as soon as possible. Children may only use Berotec under adult supervision. One dose up to three times daily is usually recommended.
Berotec – how to use an aerosol?
Properly performed inhalation is the most important aspect of taking Berotec. Press the dosing valve twice before using it for the first time. Then remove the protective cap and press the mouthpiece with your lips so that the bottom of the container is at the top. The next step is to take a deep breath and hold your breath for a few seconds. The same elements are repeated each time you take a dose. If the spray has not been used for several days, press the valve twice again.
Berotec – precautions
Particular caution should be exercised in patients who:
- have diabetes;
- have recently had a heart attack;
- have an overactive thyroid gland;
- have a pheochromocytoma.
In addition, in some cases it is recommended to take anti-inflammatory drugs (corticosteroids). Moreover, in some patients taking this medicine, it is very important to periodically check the amount of potassium in your blood. By long-term use of Berotec it is worth asking your doctor if the drug should only be used in sudden attacks.
Berotec – contraindications
The main contraindication to the use of Berotec is hypersensitivity to any substance in the drug. Cardiac arrhythmias with increased heart rate, as well as obstructive hypertrophic cardiomopathy also preclude aerosol intake.
Berotec – side effects
The most common side effects after using Berotec include:
- allergic reactions;
- stimulation;
- nervousness;
- trembling;
- decrease in the amount of potassium in the blood;
- palpitations;
- cough;
- skin reactions (e.g. itching, hives);
- dizziness or headache;
- muscle pain;
- throat irritation;
- excessive sweating.
Berotec – how to store the spray?
Berotec should be kept out of the reach of children. After the expiry date has passed, the contents of the bottle should not be poured into the sewage system. One container of Berotec contains 10 ml of fenoterol hydrobromide solution, which is enough for 200 doses.
Before use, read the leaflet, which contains indications, contraindications, data on side effects and dosage as well as information on the use of the medicinal product, or consult your doctor or pharmacist, as each drug used improperly is a threat to your life or health.
