Benefits for single mothers: federal, what laws

At the national and regional levels, benefits are provided for single mothers in various areas of life. Knowing their privileges will allow women to use them properly and to the fullest.

What Federal Privileges Do Working Single Mothers Get

A woman raising a child on her own is entitled to the same benefits as for complete families, but at the regional level she is assigned additional payments, the amount of which differs depending on the subject of the Federation.

Benefits for working single mothers are laid down in the Labor Code

The Labor Code provides for support for such women, taking into account the fact that they need to devote more time to the baby and, at the same time, to ensure material well-being without outside interference. Assistance is provided in kind or in cash and concerns the following aspects of employment:

  • Convenient work schedule. Managers of enterprises of any form of ownership cannot send the mother on business trips until the child is three years old, engage in overtime work and on non-working days, and put the mother on night shifts for up to five years without her consent.
  • Abbreviated schedule. At the request of a worker raising a baby up to 14 years of age or a disabled person, she is assigned part-time work for a certain period of time or a week.
  • Additional vacation. Until the child reaches the age of 14, a woman can take 2 weeks of free leave, and if the baby has a disability, then she is given up to four additional days off per month.
  • Dismissal from work. If the child is under the age of 14 or is disabled under the age of 18, the employer has no right to fire a single mother without reason. The loss of a job can be caused by the liquidation of the enterprise or gross violations of labor discipline on the part of a woman.
  • Taxation. The tax deduction due to parents of children under 18 and full-time students of universities, that is, a decrease in taxable salary, for a single mother is doubled if her income does not exceed the amount determined by the state.
  • Hospital child care. The amount and procedure for receiving payments under the certificate of incapacity for work is the same for everyone. The exception is the mothers of children with certain diseases or invalids, but these differences are associated with the health of the baby, and not the special status of the woman.

Regional authorities or business leaders can expand the list of benefits, assign additional compensation or privileges. But this is not regulated by law in any way and is an act of mercy and goodwill.

Additional benefits provided by the law

At the federal level, special conditions for single mothers are provided only at the level of labor relations. Regional laws or city decisions may provide additional assistance.

Regional authorities determine which additional benefits to provide single mothers

To understand her rights, a woman needs to ask about local legislation affecting her interests. The solution to the problem of single-parent families in the regions is approached in different ways:

  • Admission to kindergarten. State priorities are not provided for in this issue, but in Irkutsk, Bratsk, Angarsk single residents have the primary right to get a place for their baby in a kindergarten, in Moscow and Yekaterinburg they have benefits.
  • Tuition discount. For education in special schools, you can get a 30% discount by writing an application to the Committee on Culture and addressed to the director.
  • Free meals. Free breakfast and lunch are provided for the benefit child.

Providing free housing for a single mom is not provided, but she can participate in the “Young Family” program and register an apartment in a mortgage, with the help of the state paying a reduced interest rate.

Help at the state and regional levels does not solve the problems of single mothers, but it makes their life much easier and allows you to pay more attention to your baby.
