Since potatoes are the most important vegetable crop in any of the household plots, gardeners prefer to grow only the most valuable and best varieties of it, which have excellent taste and characteristics. One of these varieties is Bellarosa, the description and cultivation features of which we will tell you in this article.
Characterization
The Bellarosa variety was obtained by the efforts of German breeders and is successfully grown today in temperate climatic zones. In 2000, this potato variety was recorded in the State Register of Cultivated Plants, which are well suited for cultivation in the countries of Eastern Europe. If we talk about the characteristics of the Bellarosa variety, then it boasts such positive qualities as:
- precocity. Bellarosa potatoes can be harvested 60 days after planting in the soil. And experienced gardeners spend digging somewhere on the 45th day. As for the southern regions, there gardeners can harvest several crops of this variety per season, which has undoubted advantages – after the first harvest, which falls somewhere in the first decade of July, the vacated land is often used for new planting potatoes;
- productivity. Stable indicators of harvesting vegetable crops of the Bellarosa variety invariably please all summer residents, since it is realistic to collect up to 1 tons of root crops from 35 hectare of area;
- the soil. The Bellarosa variety is able to grow and develop perfectly on all types of soil, with the exception of heavy clay;
- drought resistance. Potatoes of this variety react normally to drought, this does not in the least affect its growth and the quality of root crops. This characteristic is very suitable for those areas that are large and do not have an automatic watering system;
- disease resistance. The variety has a fairly good immunity to such unpleasant ailments as bacterial rot, potato cancer, scab, viruses, potato nematode, blackleg, late blight, rhizoctonia;
- damage resistance. During harvesting, the tubers are difficult to mechanically damage, most often they can be harvested whole;
- excellent taste characteristics. Bellarosa is a table potato variety that cooks well and tastes very good;
- keeping quality. Most often, early varieties of potatoes cannot boast of this quality, but this one is a pleasant exception. Thus, subject to all storage conditions, potatoes of this excellent variety are able to maintain their original appearance and quality for quite a long time.

Description
If we talk about the description of the variety, then its shoots are semi-erect, can grow up to 75 cm in height, and also have fairly powerful stems. The bushes are distinguished by the presence of large leaves that have a closed shape and some waviness. The description of the inflorescences is as follows – they have a red-violet color, and also differ in medium size. If we mention the yield, then from one bush you can collect up to 10 large tubers of the same size. Sometimes potatoes of this variety may not bloom.
We turn to the description of the tubers of this wonderful variety of everyone’s favorite root crop. It has a thick, smooth to the touch, but somewhat rough, skin, which has a characteristic reddish or light pink hue. The color of the pulp can vary from yellow to yellowish-cream. The tubers also have a regular oval, sometimes oval-round shape. To the description, you should definitely add the presence of shallow eyes on each of the potatoes. The starch content in root crops of this variety ranges from 12 to 7%, and they can weigh approximately 15 – 8 grams. Some specimens are quite capable of reaching a weight of 115 – 210 grams, but this is the exception rather than the rule. This is a description of the potato, which makes it easy to distinguish the root crops of this variety from other similar ones.
Agrotechnics
Somewhere two to three weeks before planting potatoes, the planting material must be laid out in boxes or scattered in a bright, dry room where the temperature is not higher than +15 degrees, and left there until the eyes appear.
As for the site for planting and subsequent cultivation of a vegetable crop, it is recommended to start its preparation in the autumn, in the spring it will only be necessary to dig up the ground. During sowing, it is always advised to take into account the size of the potatoes, while during planting, the distance between the holes should be about 40 cm, and between the rows you should retreat about 90 cm.
For Bellarosa during cultivation, top dressing with a sufficient content of such a valuable trace element as magnesium is very important. This is especially true of vegetable crops, which are grown on sandy soil. Dolomite flour has proven itself well in this matter, which is usually applied at the rate of 50 grams of funds per square meter. We should not forget about the obligatory loosening of the soil, which helps to get rid of weeds and soil crust. Experts advise to carry out about three loosenings for the entire period of growing a crop. Since the variety has a high degree of drought tolerance, it can be content with rainfall and does not need to be watered.
