Belching during pregnancy is a physiological norm, and the expectant mother should not worry about this. For this period of a woman’s life, certain disorders in the process of the gastrointestinal tract are typical.

Belching during pregnancy by doctors is an acceptable norm.

Belching during pregnancy: probable causes

During the period of bearing a child, serious hormonal changes occur in a woman’s body. It is they who, in most cases, cause the passage of air from the stomach. Violent belching during pregnancy is typical of the third trimester, as the huge uterus puts significant pressure on the stomach, changing its position.

There are other causes of belching in a pregnant woman. This is:

  • conversation while eating. Swallowed excess air comes out of the stomach naturally;
  • poor quality chewing of food. If a woman is in a hurry while eating and swallows large pieces, then this will inevitably lead to disruption of the digestive process. Poorly digested food will ferment and produce excess gas;
  • a certain posture that a pregnant woman takes after eating can also provoke an eructation;
  • a lot of sweets. Frequent belching during pregnancy can be triggered by regular candy. Sugary carbonated drinks can have the same effect;
  • inclusion of gas-forming products in the diet. These are cabbage, legumes, grapes and bananas;
  • sour berries and dishes quite often cause belching in pregnant women;
  • smoking and marinades. Foods and dishes from this category can also provoke the discharge of air from the stomach;
  • a large amount of starchy foods – pasta, potatoes, bread, cereals.

Chronic gastrointestinal diseases that a woman had before pregnancy should not be ruled out.

Prevention of belching in a pregnant woman

If the belching delivers not only physical, but also moral discomfort – sometimes the air from the stomach leaves at the most inopportune time – you can try to prevent its development. The specialist recommends the following:

  • try not to overeat. You need to eat often and little by little;
  • after eating, drink a glass of still mineral water;
  • refuse to eat before bedtime;
  • drink at least 1,5 liters of water during the day;
  • reduce the amount of protein foods. It is worth giving preference to cereals, vegetables and fruits. The latter can be eaten both fresh and baked;
  • drink tea with lemon balm.

Oatmeal jelly has proven itself well. The drink coats the walls of the stomach and reduces gas production.

Most often, belching during pregnancy does not pose any threat to a woman’s health. But if it is accompanied by stomach discomfort, then you need to consult a doctor.
