How does caffeine affect our training?
Researchers from Coventry University in the UK set out to see how coffee, and more specifically caffeine, affects cyclists. Scientists were primarily curious as to whether gender plays a big role here. To this end, they invited 19 cyclists and 19 female cyclists to the experiment. They asked them to drive five kilometers on time. Some of them were given a placebo before the ride. Others, on the other hand, had to drink enough coffee to supply their bodies with 3 mg of caffeine for every kilogram of body weight. What were the results of this experiment?
Researchers found that those people who drank coffee before cycling improved their results. Gender played no role here. Both women and men performed significantly better than those given the placebo.
This is not the only study that has examined the effects of coffee on athletes. Other scientists have found that drinking one cup half an hour before training allows us to exercise by as much as 30%. longer.
