Viru-Merz is used in the initial stage of infection of the skin and mucous membranes caused by Herpes simplex viruses types 1 and 2, with symptoms of stinging, tingling, itching, tension, pain, swelling, before blistering. The preparation is in the form of an over-the-counter ointment.

Viru-Merz – indications and dosage
Viru-Merz is used in the initial stage of infection of the skin and mucous membranes caused by Herpes simplex viruses type 1 and 2, which are accompanied by: stinging, tingling, itching, pain tension, swelling – before the formation of bubbles.
Dosage
- Gently rub into the affected skin at least 3 times / day. Treatment should be discontinued if no improvement occurs within 2 days or if blistering occurs.
Viru-Merz and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Viru-Merz:
- hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
- production of fully formed bubbles, especially their rupture,
- it is not recommended to use the preparation during breastfeeding.
Viru-Merz – warnings
- Viru-Merz is intended for use on the skin.
- Avoid contact with the eyes.
- Allergic reactions may occur and usually disappear after discontinuation of use.
- This medicine contains methyl hydroxybenzoate, which may cause local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis.
- If contact dermatitis is suspected, a skin test with tromantadine should be performed after the acute skin symptoms have subsided.
- The sorbic acid contained in Viru-Merz may cause allergic reactions.
- There are no sufficient data on the safety of the preparation during pregnancy, so it can be used only when absolutely necessary and only after consulting a doctor.
Viru-Merz – interactions
There are no known interactions of Viru-Merz with other drugs.
Viru-Merz – side effects
Local allergic skin reactions may occur. They are characterized by exacerbation of the symptoms of viral infection, i.e. increased itching, increased feelings of tension, pain, increased redness and the formation of nodules. In individual cases, superinfections and abscesses may occur. In this case, Viru-Merz should be discontinued. Contact dermatitis may develop.
