Before going to bed, we should drink a glass of water. Why?

There is no need to remind anyone about the need to hydrate the body. Even a slight dehydration has a negative impact on our functioning and can even cause serious health problems. Why should we drink a glass of water every day before going to bed?

  1. Water plays a very important role in the process of cleansing the body, removing residual toxins. It also improves the work of the circulatory system and prevents dehydration that is dangerous for the body
  2. How much water we should drink a day depends on many factors, including age, body build, lifestyle, health as well — on the weather. Hot weather and dry air increase the daily water requirement
  3. It is important at what times of the day we drink the water. When drunk before going to bed, it has an impact on the circulatory system and the work of the heart, among other things

A glass of water should accompany us at different times of the day, but it is worth remembering that it is not only the amount of fluids that counts, but also when we drink them. The water drunk in the morning, right after waking up, will have a different role, and the one that we will drink before going to bed. In the latter case, it may even reduce the risk of a heart attack, as it has an impact on the functioning of the circulatory system. Even slight dehydration can adversely affect endothelial function and thus contribute to heart disease and reduced physical performance.

How much water should we drink a day?

This is one of the frequent topics of discussion. It is said that you need to drink two liters of water a day. Meanwhile, there is no simple answer to the question of how much water to drink, because the desired level of fluid intake depends on age, body build, diseases, activities and ambient temperature. The need for water increases in hot weather, as well as during sports or other physical exertion.

In addition, it is worth remembering that water is also found in other fluids that we drink during the day, as well as in, for example, fruit and vegetables. This also counts towards your daily fluid balance.

When is the best time to drink water?

A glass of water drunk right after waking up, for example with the addition of lemon, stimulates the body to act. Drink 30 minutes before meals helps digestion, and drinking water two hours before exercise prevents dehydration and increases in body temperature during training. It is also worth drinking a glass of water before bathingbecause it helps lower blood pressure.

  1. Seven unusual signs of dehydration. Do not underestimate!

And why should we drink water also at bedtime? It turns out that it is important for the proper functioning of the circulatory system. During the day, the force of gravity keeps the water in the lower part of the body (that’s why our legs are often swollen in the second half of the day). When we go to bed, in the supine position, our legs are on the same level as the kidneys, which makes it easier for this organ to remove water and toxins from the body. We should therefore replenish the water to prevent adverse changes in the body. As a result of water shortage, our blood pressure drops and its volume decreases, so the heart has to work faster and harder to maintain circulation. Water deficiency also affects the concentration of electrolytes, which can interfere with muscle function.
