And why should we drink water also at bedtime? It turns out that it is important for the proper functioning of the circulatory system. During the day, the force of gravity keeps the water in the lower part of the body (that’s why our legs are often swollen in the second half of the day). When we go to bed, in the supine position, our legs are on the same level as the kidneys, which makes it easier for this organ to remove water and toxins from the body. We should therefore replenish the water to prevent adverse changes in the body. As a result of water shortage, our blood pressure drops and its volume decreases, so the heart has to work faster and harder to maintain circulation. Water deficiency also affects the concentration of electrolytes, which can interfere with muscle function.
