Beets differ in the way they are used, ripening and sowing times. In this article, we’ll take a look at table beet seeds. And we will consider in more detail the types of ripening and sowing.

Beetroot can be early-ripening, mid-ripening and late-ripening

By the timing of ripening there are:

  • Early. You will harvest your first crop 2-3 months after planting.
  • Average. The fruits ripen in 80-100 days.
  • Late. The crop is harvested after 100-135 days.

When choosing a variety, consider when you want to harvest.

According to the sowing time, the following are distinguished:

  • Seeds for sowing in spring. These are the majority of varieties, since sowing is usually carried out in early spring.
  • Seeds for sowing before winter. Such varieties are more resistant to cold, germinate faster, but cannot be stored for the winter. These are “Cold-resistant-19” and “Podzimnyaya-474”.

Think in advance about whether you will be storing beets in the winter and when you want to harvest.

We will consider the most popular:

  • Bordeaux 237. The variety is resistant to cold temperatures. Refers to a mid-season species. The pulp is dark red. Suitable for storage in the basement for six months. At the same time, it does not lose its taste.
  • “Pablo F1”. It belongs to the early type. The pulp is dark red. Suitable for long-term storage. It has a thin skin and sweetness.
  • “Detroit”. Differs in high productivity, is stored for a long time. Fruit weight is about 200 grams. Belongs to the late maturing type. Cold resistant.

It is most often used for consumption during the summer and fall, until other varieties are ripe. This beet is the best solution for the northern regions.

These varieties are the most popular, and many summer residents plant them on their plots annually.

It is important to choose a beet variety that has good characteristics such as cold tolerance, high yield and keeping quality. When choosing seeds, consider your goals and the timing of when you want to harvest and whether you intend to store it in the winter.
