When looking for salads with garlic, many people start with beetroot. This is due to the availability of ingredients included in it, and the ease of preparation. Considering that beets can be found on store shelves all year round, this salad can become a lifesaver for any housewife.
What is included in a beetroot salad with garlic
To prepare this dish you need: – 2-3 large beets or 4-5 small root crops;
– 2 cloves of garlic; – 100 g of mayonnaise; – salt, pepper and herbs to taste.
Supporters of a healthy lifestyle should replace mayonnaise with sour cream or olive oil, while with each of these sauces, the salad will sparkle with new colors, not to mention the taste. An excellent dressing will be a mix of vegetable oil mixed with vinegar or lemon juice in equal proportions.
How to make a garlic and beetroot salad
Beets should be washed, trimmed and boiled until tender, without first cleaning, otherwise the product will lose color. This will take two to three hours, depending on the size of the roots. If you want to preserve the rich beetroot shade of purple-red, you should add a teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice to the pan with beets, but only if the cooking utensils are not made of aluminum. This metal, in contact with acids, releases substances harmful to health.
After the beets become soft, which can be easily checked by puncturing them with a knife, you must wait for them to cool. You can speed up this process by placing a pot of beets under cold water. This method will not only help to cool it down, but also make it softer. Then you should peel the root vegetables, grate them and mix with garlic, passed through a press or grated on a finer grater. You can also chop the garlic finely and use a knife. The greens need to be chopped and added to the salad, after which it remains to salt it and season with mayonnaise or other dressing to taste.

If the classic salad recipe has already become familiar, you can make changes to it that will transform the taste. This primarily applies to spices and herbs. A pinch of red pepper and a few sprigs of chopped cilantro will transform a salad completely. And if you add a couple of tablespoons of grated cheese to it, then it will turn out to be even more tender. Another option is to mix the salad with garlic and nuts. Moreover, their varietal affiliation can be completely different – from affordable walnuts to more expensive cedar ones.
