Pressure ulcers occur in people who stay in one position, either lying or sitting, for long periods of time. These can be deep necrotic wounds that extend down to the bone. It is worth counteracting pressure ulcers through the patient’s home gymnastics and a balanced diet. However, when they appear, you can use ointments for pressure ulcers or patches for pressure ulcers.
Bedsores – what is it?
Bedsores ointments and patches are meant to relieve pain and cure deformed skin. But what are pressure ulcers? These are skin lesions, even to muscles and bones, which are caused by prolonged or frequently recurring pressure. Bedsores appear most often in the elderly and the sick, lying down, as well as in people with disabilities, including those in a wheelchair. It happens, however, that pressure ulcers also develop after a fracture when a cast is worn for a long time.
But what it looks like pressure ulcer formation process? Blood stops circulating properly in the place that is under prolonged pressure. This leads to tissue hypoxia and the accumulation of toxins in them. In the last stage of the development of pressure ulcers, the tissues die. This usually occurs where the bones meet the skin, such as the elbows, ankles, and knees, along the spine, shoulder blades, heels, occiput, and hip bones.
Decubitus ulcers are caused by improper hygiene of the sick person, a diet poor in proteins and vitamins, lack of exercise, diseases such as diabetes, obesity, diseases of the blood vessels, improper functioning of the digestive or blood system. Therefore, the use of ointments for bedsores should be accompanied by adequate hygiene and diet, as well as physical rehabilitation procedures. It’s also a good way to help prevent pressure ulcers from forming.
To prevent pressure ulcers, you can also use the Sanity Pressure Sore Remover or the Foam Anti-Decubitus Circle Remedy. It is also worth buying an anti-bedsore kit (mattress + compressor), thanks to which the risk of pressure ulcers is much lower.

Bedsores ointments
A good bedsores ointment should contain vitamin E, which is responsible for supporting the process of skin cell multiplication, as well as panthenol provoking rapid regeneration. Other ingredients can vary from honey to Himalayan herbs. The purpose of the ointment for bedsores is to care for and protect the skin, accelerate its regeneration, and also prevent the dying of skin tissues. Another important role of such preparations is isolation from bacteria and fungi.
Antibiotic ointments for pressure ulcers should be covered with a sterile dressing.
The most popular preparations of this type are ointments for bedsores with allantoin, hemp and propolis. In addition, you can find zinc and cholesterol preparations in pharmacies. The ointments for bedsores with Peruvian balm are also very popular. It is an ingredient that is responsible for the strong hydration of dead skin. That is why it is often used as an ointment for deep pressure ulcers.
We recommend ZinoDr. – a barrier-protective ointment with zinc, which you can buy in packages of various capacities at Medonet Market. You can also buy L-Mesitran Zinc Honey Ointment, which is anti-inflammatory. Mediskin Aqua Cream for diaper irritation and bedsores is also available at a promotional price.
Bedsores patches
Dressing plasters for pressure ulcers, similarly to ointments, are used in the case of deep XNUMXst and XNUMXnd degree wounds. They create a moist environment within the pressure ulcers, thanks to which they quickly heal them. They have soothing, regenerating and anti-microbial properties. The latter feature is given to them by various substances. As popular as antibiotic pressure ulcer patches, silver patches are. Decubitus patches are not reimbursed by the National Health Fund.
How often should you change the patches for pressure ulcers? It depends on their type: Pharmacies offer:
- hydrogel pressure ulcer patches in the form of a paste or plates, they provide a moist environment, dissolve the clot and activate the capillaries; under the influence of exudate, they increase in volume, they are changed every 3-7 days,
- patches for hydrocolloid pressure ulcers – a soft, jelly-like mass, mainly composed of water, usually covered with a polyurethane dressing; patches dissolve dead tissue and clean it; most often they are used for wounds with black necrosis; dressing change should take place every 3 days,
- semi-permeable polyurethane plasters – a thin, flexible dressing protects the wound against ingress of water and bacteria; absorbs the discharge, thus contributing to the rapid healing of the bedsores; convenient for use on heels, elbows or knees; to change every 2 weeks,
- hydrofiber patches – they absorb exudate to the highest degree; efficiently fights bacteria, therefore it is most often used in already infected wounds.
An interesting solution in the case of difficult wounds is Farmactive Silver – a wound spray with colloidal silver and hyaluronic acid, which reduces exudation and accelerates healing. To provide the skin with the right conditions for regeneration, you can also use the Suprasorb H hydrocolloid dressing, which lasts for 7 days, or the Suprasorb C collagen dressing, available in three different sizes.
