Obtain the accreditation of a childminder
Approval is mandatory to exercise the profession of childminder legally!
The request for approval
The future childminder must apply for approval to the General Council, who will organize an information meeting. The medical examination is compulsory, in particular to check that your vaccines, as well as those of your entourage, are up to date. The maternal assistant approval will normally be issued to you within three months from the date of receipt of your file by the President of the General Council. During this time, you will receive a visit from a social worker, a psychologist and a doctor from the PMI center, who will check in particular the safety and hygiene standards of your accommodation. THE‘maternal assistant license specifies the number of children you can look after (four maximum), their age, and often also the hours of care (day or half-day for example). It is granted for five years and you can then renew it. Throughout the period of validity of your accreditation, you will receive regular visits from the PMI doctor, to ensure that everything is going well.

The surface area of your home must be proportional to the number and age of the children to be looked after. Likewise, the equipment (stroller, changing table, etc.) must be adapted to the age of the children you want to keep.
What is the cost of training to be a childminder?
Like most continuing education, it is possible to use your training account to finance your accreditation. This account is fed regularly when you carry out a salaried activity. Unemployed, you can also contact your employment center advisor to finance your training. However, it should be noted that the expenses will however be necessary to adapt your accommodation to the reception of children.
At what age can I pass my maternal assistant license?
There is no indication of age to become assmat. The minimum age is therefore 18 years old. You should still know that few childminders work at this age, especially because they are required to have accommodation (as a tenant or owner and not staying with someone). If this scenario is rather rare, it is quite possible for you to try your luck to become a childminder!
Becoming an assmat: compulsory training
Since January 1, 2007, childminders must follow a compulsory training of 120 hours. The first 60 hours are given before any reception of a child. The remaining 60 hours are completed within two years of accreditation. Entirely supported by the General Council or by the reception structure on which you depend, this training aims in particular to deepen your knowledge about the world of early childhood, the pace and needs of the child, relationships with parents, educational aspects and the constitutional framework. throughout the duration of the training: it is the General Council which organizes and finances the reception of the children that you usually look after.
Nursery assistant: what degree?
To become a nursery assistant, no diploma is required. Only theapproval of the General Council is compulsory today to exercise this profession. However, since 2005, the status of maternal assistant has gradually become more professional and, in 2009, professional certification of childminder / childcare assistant was born. This level V title is equivalent to the CAP and BEP. However, it is not obligatory. According to INSEE, 50% of childminders have no diploma. Acquiring the new title of nursery assistant, through certification, is an opportunity for some to have their skills recognized and their experiences validated.
What is the salary of a licensed childminder?
The remuneration of childminders and very variable according to many criteria. Indeed, depending on the department and the terms of the contracts, the salary can vary significantly. however, you should know that the minimum wage is 2,88 euros gross per hour. Beyond 45 hours per week, the salary is increased. Allowances can also be added to the remuneration such as transport or meals.
Is it difficult to become a childminder?
Everything is relative according to the people. However, it should be noted that the job of childminder is a very demanding job. You will need great motivation to be able to complete your vocation.
