Battle for the harvest: why plant garlic in strawberries

Some do this, others advise never to do this: the question of planting garlic in strawberries is controversial. One thing is for sure: everyone knows about the joint planting of these crops. In this article we will try to figure out who is right, what are the pros and cons of such a landing, and how to do it most correctly.
Pros of joint landings
Protection against pests. If the owner of the garden does not want to use pesticides, but there is also no desire to give the crop to be eaten by insects, many resort to planting strawberries and garlic together. The experience of generations shows that in this case, garlic saves strawberries from pests.
Rational use of land. Not everyone has plots with a large number of acres. Someone has to fit all plantings on a small piece of land. That is why strawberries and garlic are often planted together, as they do not interfere with each other’s growth.
Prevention of soil depletion. In order for the plants to develop well and they do not have a shortage of minerals and other valuable elements, gardeners and gardeners must observe crop rotation, that is, they must grow different crops annually on the same plot, which consume and send different microelements to the mail.
Do strawberries need garlic?
With the goal of preventing soil depletion, the landowners are two-handed for planting garlic and strawberries together, since garlic, during its growth, releases phytoncides into the soil – substances that tend to destroy harmful microorganisms or slow down their vital activity. It is thanks to these phytoncides that strawberries grow healthy, do not rot, and are not affected by fungi.
Also, the smell of garlic and the phytoncides secreted by it scares away insects, for example, May beetles, ticks, weevils, slugs and others. Therefore, these pests do not get to the sweet berry and do not spoil it.
A different view: garlic and strawberries cannot be planted together
There is another opinion, according to which strawberries, when planted together with garlic, do not rot and do not get sick just because there is nothing to hurt: there are no berries, there are only bushes.
It turns out that garlic does not positively affect the health of the berries, on the contrary, when planted together, the berries grow poorly or do not grow at all.
And there is a third version: it is not the fact of joint landing that is important, but its correctness. Supporters of this opinion believe that it is important to plant garlic between strawberry bushes, and not randomly. And even better – when they coexist in different territories, or garlic is a predecessor.
