Many summer residents deny themselves urban comfort and do not arrange a full-fledged bathroom in a summer country house. But in vain! After all, it is here that you can show your imagination as much as possible and create an interior without tedious approvals.
Bathroom in a country house
Bathroom in a country house
Our heroes inherited a relatively new wooden house without any special amenities. The rather spacious building with an area of about 120 m² did not have a full-fledged sewerage system, water supply system, and it was supposed to take a shower in the yard. Isn’t it a familiar situation for many of those who operate the dacha mainly in the summer? For the new owners – a family with two small children – this level of comfort was not suitable. The weather required daily water procedures in the bath, and adults did not want to run into the notorious “house on the street”.
For the bathroom, one of those rooms was allocated that were conscientiously cut during the initial construction of the building. A large cast-iron bathtub, toilet and sink were installed on an area of almost 10 m². Nearby, in a spacious storage room, a boiler, a water supply system and a washing machine were located. At first glance, there is a bit too much space for a country bathroom. But they did not transfer the interior partition cut into the walls. After the “minimalism” of a typical panel apartment, I really didn’t want to give up space and a large window.

The log walls were relatively flat and dry, but cracked and unaesthetic dark seams. With machine or tedious manual grinding, a sufficiently high-quality caulking of the walls could suffer. Therefore, they decided to simply paint the logs white. The ceilings were even worse. Between the beautiful beams, the unshaped rough plank of the second floor was visible. The soundproofing ability of such a structure was out of the question. Therefore, the ceiling was made hemmed, with soundproofing and built-in lights.
To the right of the entrance to the bathroom, behind latticed doors, there is a pantry-laundry room and a technical unit. On the left there is a spacious cast-iron bath Jacob Delafon (France) measuring 180×75 cm. This is probably the largest model of the named manufacturer. In the center of a spacious room, a dryer is often laid out for washed items.

The planning solution was predetermined by the dimensions of the premises and the already purchased plumbing fixtures. The corner of the stove and a large window opening set the size of the tub box, which was made of plasterboard on a metal frame with insulation. Roomy niches were equipped to the right of the bath, and comfortable shelves to the left. The interior design is based on the contrast of textured log walls and perfectly smooth surfaces of the ceiling and plasterboard structures, which are covered with paint or faced with large tiles interspersed with mosaic stripes.
Photo 1. In the technical cabinet there was a place not only for a boiler and a washing machine, but also for the distribution of water pipes and filters. These filters purify water from the well from mechanical impurities and bring it to an acceptable household state.
Photo 2. In a kind of niche formed by the outer walls and partitions of the pantry, a toilet and a sink fit freely. The box behind them was made in order to hide the sewer and water pipes. But it’s not only that. The orange color of the box supports the palette set by the bright tiles Viva Ceramica (Italy). And on the top shelf you can put a lot of jars-flasks.
Photo 3. The brick wall of the stove is visible to the left of the bath. When heated in winter, soft infrared heat fills the entire room. A plasterboard construction that covers the bottom of the bath, rising higher, forms convenient shelves-recesses for useful little things.
Wooden and plasterboard surfaces of walls, ceilings, all kinds of niches and boxes are covered with a special Dulux water-dispersion paint for wet rooms. It resists the formation of condensation and withstands wet cleaning with flying colors. For a year and a half of operation, the paint did not cause any complaints. The floors are finished with the so-called Tikkurila deck varnish (Finland), which forms a smooth waterproof film. Its only drawback is a pungent smell, which is felt during application and for some time until it completely hardens.
