What will our bathrooms look like tomorrow? The answer to this question is provided by the main world show of novelties in tiles and sanitary ware – the Cersaie exhibition in Bologna. Walking around it up and down, we identified the brightest trends of 2009.
Gold
“Peace can only be bought with gold,” says an advertisement for banks offering gold bars for sale. Designers completely agree with this: it is no coincidence that they decorate tiles, mosaics and even plumbing with noble metal. If you wish, you can turn the entire bathroom into a gold pantry. The calming effect is guaranteed: this investment will definitely not depreciate!

Animal skins
Who would have thought that the leopard print, the “finest hour” of which passed back in the 90s, will again take possession of the minds of designers! At first, patterns borrowed from the African fauna flooded the catwalks, then they migrated to new collections of wallpapers and fabrics. But it turned out that it was just the beginning! Today, voracious predators have made their way to bathrooms. They are everywhere: from wall tiles and mosaics to sinks, radiators and faucets. If this continues, the appearance of toilets “under the leopard” is not far off. Fearfully? Already horror!

Disguise
Once upon a time, ceramic tiles were born as an economical alternative to natural stone. But now its possibilities are not limited to the banal imitation of marble and granite. In its ability to mimicry, modern tiles are not inferior to the chameleon: they disguise themselves as capitonné, rui, lace, marquetry, wood, wallpaper … And whatever guises it may take, they all suit her!

The age-old dream of mankind has come true: according to the founder of Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson, in 2009 space tourism will be available to everyone. In anticipation of this moment, designers are already accustoming us to weightlessness. Furniture and equipment for bathrooms are increasingly losing their legs and are sent “in free flight”. Sinks, bidets and toilets lift off the ground, followed by massive cabinets: hung from the wall, they look no heavier than a piece of fluff. A special chic when the entire bathroom is equipped with hanging components. The bathtubs themselves are still firmly on their feet, but who knows? Perhaps it will soon be their turn!

Apparently, tile designers in childhood did not finish playing puzzles: judging by the new collections, now they selflessly indulge in this entertainment at work. One of the main trends of the season is small figured tiles of complex shapes. Elements of different shapes and colors are folded into a decorative panel that can be extended indefinitely.

Like peas against a wall
In fashion reviews, reference to the polka dot pattern is often accompanied by the term “retro”. But if dresses and blouses with such a pattern really give off a little mothballs, then this clearly does not apply to tiles and mosaics. “Polka dots” on the walls make any interior look bright and modern. Designers offer many options: from tiny dots to large circles that look equally impressive on walls, floors, ceilings … Nobody can say about such an interior that it has survived since the time of the King of Peas!
