Basil syrup: 2 recipes at home

Basil syrup can be made from any plant variety. It all depends on what taste preferences are close to you.

Green basil is milder in taste and very fragrant, while purple basil contains more essential oils, making it brighter in taste and pungent in smell.

The main rule is that the grass should be fresh, without dry leaves and rot.

Classic Basil Syrup Recipe

Ingredients

  1. Sugars – 1100 g

  2. Basil – 6 bunches (250-300 g)

  3. Lemon (large) – 1 pc.

  4. Water – 500 ml

Method of preparation

  1. Take basil leaves, wash and dry a little.

  2. Bring water to a boil, add sugar, pour in lemon juice, stir, bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes.

  3. We throw the leaves into the syrup and cook for 20-30 minutes.

  4. We filter the syrup. Once again put the filtered syrup on the fire and bring to a boil, cook for 5 minutes.

  5. Pour into sterilized jars and seal.

Ingredients

  1. Red basil leaves – 150 g

  2. Water – 2 L

  3. Granulated sugar – 1,5 kg

  4. Citric acid – 2 tbsp.

Method of preparation

  1. Clean leaves are cut into small pieces, put in a bowl, covered with citric acid and kneaded well with a fork.

  2. As soon as the basil gives juice, add 1 cup of white sugar and mix again with a wooden spoon. The container with products is tightly closed with a lid and sent to the refrigerator for a day.

  3. The base syrup is made from the remains of sugar and water. The flavored mass from the bowl is added to it, mixed and boiled for 20 minutes.

  4. After that, the fire is turned off and allowed to cool for 4 – 5 hours.

  5. The finished syrup is filtered through several layers of gauze.

  6. A clear liquid with a reddish tint is put back on the fire and boiled over low heat for 40 minutes.

  7. Pour into sterile containers and close. Keep refrigerated.
