Useful foods for Graves’ disease

Since in this disease there are disturbances in the metabolic processes of the body, due to which weight decreases and muscle atrophy often appears, it is necessary to include a large amount of vitamins, amino acids, thiamine and especially carbohydrates in the patient’s diet.

Foods that a patient can eat in unlimited quantities:

  • seafood, namely fish and seaweed;
  • vegetables: carrots, tomatoes, potatoes;
  • fruits and berries: pineapples, bananas, apples, all citrus fruits, wild strawberries, strawberries;
  • onion garlic;
  • chicken egg yolks;
  • rice, buckwheat and oatmeal.

This entire list of products will help strengthen the body, muscle tissue, improve the performance of the heart muscle, replenish the amount of glycogen in the liver, and give balance. Fiber will help restore metabolic processes and relieve constipation (in most cases, patients suffer from them).

You need to eat fractionally and at least 5 times a day (in small, but high-calorie portions). All meals should be stewed, either cooked or steamed.

It is better to eat meat dishes in moderation and should not be prepared from meat of low-fat varieties (dietary): chicken, rabbit, nutria, young veal.

As for iodine-containing products (except for sea fish and cabbage), you should be careful and consult your doctor from time to time after passing laboratory tests). It all depends on its level and stage of the disease.

Nutritionists advise patients with Graves’ disease to increase the energy value of food by 25-30% of the norm. This is due to sudden weight loss, which must be stopped and then eradicated as early as possible.
