Barclays

Barclays (Barclays) – premium blended whiskey, created on the basis of components from the best distilleries in the Islay, Highland and Speyside regions. The composition of the drink was restored from the original recipe for scotch, popular in the 30s of the XX century. The brand is owned by the Campbell Mayer Company and the bottling plant is located in the Scottish city of Glasgow.

Historical information

Campbell Mayer is an independent whiskey company founded in the second half of the 1861th century. The first owner of the company sold groceries in his shop. At first it was a small distillery that produced several types of whiskey. The first batch of products came out in XNUMX.

In the following decades, production expanded significantly, and the company began to supply drinks to the court of Queen Victoria. The company is still family owned, unlike most Scottish manufacturers, which are managed by international concerns. At the helm are the descendants of the original owners of the Campbell Mayer Company.

Barclays whiskey first appeared in the 20s. A blend of more than a dozen components was made by master blenders John McLaren and James Barclay. It was assumed that the main market for the sale of products under the new brand would be the United States, but the plans were prevented by the introduction of Prohibition. Barclay had to personally go overseas to find out the possibilities of illegal export.

It was possible to establish the transfer of batches of whiskey to the United States through Canada and the Caribbean. By the time the restrictions were lifted, the brand was well known to the American consumer. But in connection with the Second World War, the production of Barclays was stopped for a long time.

The brand was revived by the Campbell Mayer Company in 1991 using the original recipe. The blend includes nine single malts and three grain spirits aged in oak barrels for at least three years. Water is brought to Glasgow from a remote source in Highland Glen. The company calls its drink “old-fashioned” and emphasizes that the whiskey is produced according to the old Scottish technology.

Interesting Facts

The Campbell Mayer Company plant is located on the territory of the bonded warehouse. Every day, many cars arrive in Glasgow with containers filled with products from Scottish distilleries. Alcohols are placed in barrels and stored, and after aging they are mixed and bottled.

The composition of Barclays includes mainly old spirits, aged in different types of oak barrels. Bourbon, Spanish sherry and port wine containers are used, which forms a rich aromatic and flavor bouquet of the drink.
