But piercing, according to polls, is not the ultimate dream of German schoolchildren. Every fifth person between the ages of nine and fourteen dreams of becoming more beautiful with the help of a surgeon’s scalpel. Liposuction comes first. Not only girls (forty-two percent) dream of becoming slimmer, but also boys (thirty-two percent).
Twenty percent of girls and eleven percent of boys dream about rhinoplasty – the correction of the shape of the nose. Also, schoolchildren of both sexes want to get rid of acne and other skin problems. Ten percent of girls are not happy with their breast size, while boys are worried about the shape of their ears (eight percent) and eyes (five percent).
Hearings were held in Germany last Wednesday in connection with a legislative initiative banning plastic surgery with underage patients. According to experts, they should be allowed only in cases that are medically necessary.
The association of pediatricians is still skeptical about the idea of a complete ban on plastic surgeries for underage patients.
