Energy drinks have a bad effect on the gastric mucosa and intestinal microflora, can be dangerous for the cardiovascular system and can lead to allergies. To reach this conclusion, the researchers put a group of test subjects on bicycles, after giving half of the participants a can of an unnamed energy drink (which was described as “average”), and the other half – two bananas. After the cyclists reinforced their strength in this way, they covered 75 kilometers.
Before the start, immediately after the finish and an hour after it, the scientists examined all the participants according to several parameters: blood sugar levels, cytokine activity and the ability of cells to fight free radicals. Oddly enough, but all these indicators were the same for both groups. And besides, the “banana group” pedaled as fast as the “energy” one.
Of course, it could be that this study actually says that both energy drinks and bananas have no effect on alertness levels. However, you and I know that after a can, life takes on completely different colors! So it’s still worth trying to replace the energy drink with a banana.
