A cozy, light and environmentally friendly bedroom is a guarantee of a wonderful rest, only here you can fully relax and recharge your batteries for the whole day. Eco-style, furniture and interior details made of natural wood, as well as blankets and pillows with bamboo filling are becoming more and more popular and in demand in the design of the bedroom.

Bamboo filler: pillows and blankets

Since time immemorial, bamboo has been used as a building or finishing material; many things needed in everyday life have been made from it. Only at the end of the twentieth century did it become possible to obtain fine fibers from bamboo, suitable for creating fabrics and fillers. The amazing properties of this filler have helped to gain popularity all over the world. Today, bamboo towels, clothing, bedding, pillows, blankets and more are in great demand.

Depending on the production technology, a distinction is made between bamboo linen, bamboo viscose and bamboo rayon. The most natural is bamboo flax, it is produced without the use of chemicals. The lignified parts of the plant are crushed mechanically, then natural enzymes are added to them and a bamboo thread is drawn. Such yarn is environmentally friendly and more expensive than other types.

Bamboo silk or viscose requires the use of chemicals when obtained, therefore it cannot be called in the full sense of the natural. Experts consider it to be the most environmentally friendly of all man-made fibers. Despite the use of chemicals in the manufacture, the finished fiber is completely safe for humans and retains all its useful properties.

Polyester fiber, polyester and other man-made threads are added to bamboo fiber to reduce the price and make the products more affordable. Cotton or other fibers may also be included to increase strength and elasticity.

Properties of bamboo pillows and blankets

Bamboo fiber is unique in its properties, it resembles cashmere or silk in quality, soft cotton. Its main advantage is the bamboo kun component, which has antibacterial properties, capable of destroying up to 90% of pathogenic microbes. Due to this antimicrobial effect, regular sleep on a bamboo pillow has a wound healing, bactericidal, antiseptic effect on the skin. Moreover, these properties of the filler do not disappear even after many washings and dry cleaning of the product.

Bamboo fiber contains various beneficial components that normalize sleep function, relieve muscle tension, and improve blood circulation. For example, such substances include green pectin, bamboo honey, vitamin E, amino acids. In addition to the beneficial effect on the muscular system, they contribute to the removal of heavy metal ions, radioactive components, and toxins from the body.

Thanks to the hollow structure, bamboo fiber is very light, almost weightless and at the same time resilient. The products are at the same time soft, fluffy and easily take the shape of the body. At the same time, you should take care of the storage of bamboo products – prolonged storage when folded can lead to loss of shape and elasticity.

To prevent the blanket from being too voluminous, you can fold it several times immediately after purchase and release excess air

Pillows with this filling are ideal for people with an increased risk of allergies and asthma. Dust mites do not start in them, and the ability to self-ventilate allows them to maintain a neutral odor for a long time, even in the absence of washing for a long time. In addition, bamboo products are pleasant to the touch both in winter and in summer – in the heat they give a feeling of coolness, and in winter they are perceived as warm and cozy.

It is also worth noting the following properties of bamboo products: – hypoallergenic; – antistatic effect; – high hygroscopicity (the product absorbs moisture well).

How to choose a bamboo pillow or blanket

When choosing, you should pay attention to the density of the bamboo filler. For a summer blanket, a density of 100 g / m2 will be enough, all-season ones have a density of 200 g / m2, and under a winter blanket with a density of 300 g / m2 or more it will be warm even in a cool room.

For the blanket to retain heat better, its size must be larger than the size of the mattress.

Bamboo blankets and pillows are mainly produced by manufacturers from Germany, Japan, China. Some Russian firms have also mastered this production, for example, companies from Ivanovo, Moscow region – IFFTEXTILE, “Light Dreams”, “Asika”.

Caring for bamboo products

Bamboo pillows and blankets will last a long time if properly cared for. Products can be washed at a temperature of no more than 30-40 degrees, including in a washing machine. Dry pillows and blankets on a flat, horizontal surface at room temperature to avoid deformation. In addition, you must not overheat the product, iron it, wash at high temperature. Spinning in a centrifuge or even manually squeezing can damage the integrity of the fibers, and the blanket will not be as bulky.

The pillow is highly moisture-repellent, but it cannot be kept in a humid environment at all times. Do not bleach or dry clean bamboo pillows and blankets.
