Reduced mobility should not be a reason for seniors to give up walking on their own. Various types of supports help in this. The most popular example is a walker for seniors, available in three types. Choosing the right one depends on the possibilities of the senior’s preferences.
What kind of balcony for a senior?
A balcony for a senior citizen is a protection against falling while walking. It is light equipment, fully adapted to the physical abilities of older people. It is worth noting that, unlike a pusher on wheels, using a walking frame requires work with your hands. These are good exercises for muscles and circulation.
The choice of the appropriate support should depend on the physical fitness of the person using it, as well as the specificity of the routes he usually travels (stairs, narrow passages, etc.). They exist three types of balconies for seniors:
- static – it is very stable, equipped with anti-skid pads on the legs, without wheels, using it consists of lifting with each step, which requires a certain amount of force, which motivates the elderly person to move; the best walker for seniors who have problems with balance,
- walking balcony for a senior – moving with it resembles movements typical for roller skating, because the walker follows the steps of the person using it; models of this type can also be stiffened; a good choice for seniors who are mobile but do not have enough strength in their hands; almost all muscles work while walking,
- a balcony with wheels – ensures smooth movement, but does not provide stability and balance; It is recommended for seniors with strong hands and a good sense of balance.
Baby walker for seniors – price
The purchase of a support for the elderly is associated with a certain cost, which can be a heavy burden with the multitude of expenses for other medical products. New balconies cost about PLN 150-250. However, at online auctions you can find used walking frames for seniors in very good condition. Their price is much lower – up to PLN 50. Moreover, they are very popular balcony rentals for seniors. This type of service is offered by stores with medical supplies and equipment, as well as hospitals.
Balconies for seniors are on the list of medical items subject to reimbursement. However, its level is 70 percent. The rest, as part of the own contribution, is paid by the patient. The National Health Fund plans to co-finance a balcony for a senior citizen every 5 years.
The editorial board recommends:
- Bedsores mattress – bubble, tubular, foam
- Headband for seniors with GPS and fall detector. How it works?
- Diaper pants for seniors – what are they? Where to buy and how to choose the size?
Baby walker for senior citizens – refund

- obtain an order for equipment reimbursement from a physician (it may be a specialist in the field of internal diseases, geriatrics, neurology, gynecology or oncological gynecology, urology, family medicine, specialization in cancer treatment, as well as an internist, hospice care doctor, NHF medical assistant or licensed nurse),
