Balcony curtains: ideas and choices. Video

Today, almost every apartment has a balcony or loggia. Many people use it as a “warehouse” for old and unnecessary things. But nevertheless, the best solution would be to create a cozy place from the balcony where you can relax with the whole family. In this case, the choice of suitable curtains or curtains to decorate this room is important.

The choice of curtains for the balcony

Types of curtains for the balcony

The following types of curtains are most suitable for decorating a balcony or loggia: – Japanese; – roll; – Roman; – bamboo; – laconic curtains; – blinds; – curtains made of lightweight fabrics.

The most convenient and practical options for decorating a balcony are Japanese panel curtains, or vertical blinds. They are quite simple to care for and manage, they are easy to keep clean. All this plays an important role for rooms open to street dust penetration. In addition, Japanese panels and blinds go well with any furniture.

Japanese curtains usually have from 3 to 5 fabric panels, and therefore they are often used to decorate a loggia. For a small balcony, they are unlikely to work. Vertical blinds look quite stylish and modern. Usually they are equipped with a lifting mechanism acting on both sides: on the side of the blinds, and on the other.

Curtains made of lightweight fabrics like tulle or organza can also add coziness to the balcony, softening the rigidity of window structures with light waves.

Balcony roller blinds are also practical. At any time, they can be easily removed by raising and rolling them from above under the ceiling, or lowering them, thereby regulating the intensity of the penetration of sunlight into the room. The advantages of roller blinds and Japanese curtains are the variety of different colors, as well as the density of materials.

Bamboo curtains or wooden blinds perfectly decorate the loggia. They are made of natural, environmentally friendly material, besides, their color scheme is well suited for decorating a balcony or loggia. Roman shades can also be used for this room.

To decorate a small balcony, it is better to use laconic curtains. It is not recommended to decorate the balcony with various models with lush folds, decorated with garters, lambrequins and other decorative elements. Such curtains will quickly become covered with dust and will require frequent washing. In addition, these models will visually reduce the space of the balcony, the area of which is already quite small.

What to consider when choosing curtains for the balcony

The design of a balcony or loggia is based on one principle: curtains should not only have decorative qualities that allow you to create a certain style in the room, but also meet some functional requirements. Such curtains should be easy to handle, providing unhindered access to the balcony door and frame. In addition, the material of the curtains must be dust-repellent and fireproof.

When choosing such curtains, you need to take into account which side the windows of the balcony or loggia face. If to the north side, it is better to give preference to lighter fabrics, such as organza or tulle, through which a sufficient flow of light can penetrate. In the evening, dark light curtains will be able to close the room from prying eyes.

It is recommended to hang curtains on the south side, which have a denser texture to protect the room from too bright sunlight. However, such curtains should not be of dark colors, otherwise, absorbing the sun’s rays, they will lead to overheating of the air. Fortunately, today there is a large selection of light-colored dense fabrics on sale.

It is not recommended to use too bright curtains on the balcony or loggia. The fact is that these premises are a kind of continuation of the apartment, albeit with a fenced-off window and door. The room, which has an exit to the balcony, also has curtains. When you look out the window from this room, you will see balcony and indoor curtains at the same time. Bright and inconsistent colors will look disharmonious. Therefore, it is preferable to choose curtains for a loggia or balcony in the same color scheme as the curtains in the room. It should be borne in mind that the balcony curtains should be of a lighter shade.

Of course, owners of an unglazed balcony are not as lucky as others. And if in winter it is almost impossible to create the desired coziness in such a room, in the warm season an open balcony or loggia can be turned into a charming place for outdoor recreation. For an unglazed balcony, it is best to choose curtains made from durable materials. They should also be easy to wear off. This procedure will have to be performed quite often, since the balcony curtains will quickly become clogged and covered with dust.

For an unglazed balcony, inexpensive curtain options with a simple texture may be suitable.

Unfortunately, not every balcony has enough space to turn a room into a work of art. In such cases, it is better to decorate it not with chic curtains, but with small short curtains. If space permits, you can provide a wide scope of imagination by decorating a glazed balcony or loggia with exclusive curtains with an original design. In such a place, you can place any curtains: Austrian or Roman, pleated or classic, taking into account the canons of harmony. Thus, you can turn the balcony into a separate room with a unique style and mood.
