Baikonur grape: grape variety
The Baikonur grape is a new hybrid variety. It was created by breeder Evgeny Pavlovsky by crossing two varieties – “Pretty” and “Talisman”. It is a table variety of red grapes and is edible fresh. It has a lot of advantages, thanks to which it quickly gains popularity among gardeners and winegrowers.
“Baikonur”: description of the grape variety
This variety is early maturing, ripens in 110-115 days. Harvesting occurs at the beginning of August, but if the bunches are left on the branches for longer, this will not affect the quality of the fruit. It is attractive for the size of its berries, high yield, large clusters.
It can be described as follows:
- The fruits grow up to 4 cm in length. The average weight of each berry is 14 g. The shape is cylindrical, elongated.
- The skin is purple, with a thick waxy bloom. Thin, not felt when eating. The pulp is juicy and firm. It has 1-3 bones in the center. The taste is rich and pleasant.
- Bunches of cylindrical or conical shape. They are very large, their weight is slightly less than 1 kg.
- The leaves are large, divided into lobes.
Of the positive qualities of the plant, it is possible to single out its frost resistance, the buds do not die and produce a crop, having survived the temperature of –23 ° C. He also copes well with diseases, is relatively resistant to mildew and powdery mildew.
The plant has great vigor. You can form a bush at your own discretion, since this variety is new and there are no clear recommendations for pruning it yet. The main thing is to avoid excessive thickening. Pruning leaves and shoots in time allow the fruits to receive a sufficient amount of air and light.
The bunches can also be removed, leaving only one on the shoot. A large number of them leads to an overload of the plant, the fruits cannot fully develop.
Also, the bush is able to give an additional crop from stepchildren. If you wish, you can leave them, but you need to understand that such abundant fruiting takes away all the strength of the plant. This may affect the quality of the next year’s harvest.
It is not recommended to leave the bunches in direct sunlight – this will result in fruit burns
The bush is propagated by cuttings. They take root well and adapt to a new place. Although they take longer to do this than many other varieties. “Baikonur” is still little studied, winegrowers are experimenting with the cultivation of this hybrid. Surely the bulk of its characteristics have yet to be clarified.
