The Bahama Mama cocktail is remembered for its fruity-rum taste with a slight sweetish tint and original appearance (if cooked in a blender, the consistency will be like ice cream). The drink is easy to prepare, refreshes well and, thanks to a relatively low strength (10-12 degrees), is easy to drink.
Historical reference. The time, place of appearance and the author of the recipe remained unknown, but the Caribbean has always been famous for cocktails with a similar composition, where it is customary to mix rum with citrus juices and coconut milk. Most likely, the birthplace of “Bahama Mama” is there.
According to one version, the cocktail is named after the Boney M song “Bahama Mama”, released on the fourth studio album of the Oceans of Fantasy band in 1979. The song is about a mother from the Bahamas who cannot marry her six daughters.
To attract the attention of tourists, Caribbean bartenders used the glory of the world-famous musical hit and even came up with a legend that this particular cocktail was prepared by a mother from the Bahamas for potential suitors.
Composition and proportions:
- light rum – 30 ml;
- Malibu coconut liqueur – 30 ml;
- dark rum – 15 ml;
- pineapple juice – 60 ml;

In some variations of the cocktail, 20 ml of coffee liqueur, 30 ml of banana liqueur or 10 ml of Angostura are also added, but there are no such components in the traditional “Bahamian” recipe.
