Bactroban is a drug used in dermatology to treat bacterial skin infections. The preparation has a bactericidal effect. The active substance of the preparation is mupirocin. Bactroban is available as an ointment and cream for topical application to the skin and can only be obtained with a prescription.

Bactroban and contraindications and warnings
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation.
- Do not use the preparation in the eyes or nose.
- Do not mix Bactroban ointment with other preparations (risk of dilution of the active substance and loss of effectiveness).
- There is no need to adjust the dosage of Bactroban cream in people with renal or hepatic impairment.
- Caution should be exercised when using the preparation in the form of an ointment in people with moderate or severe renal impairment.
Bactroban – side effects
- skin hypersensitivity reactions (including hives, itching, erythema, burning sensation, contact dermatitis, rash),
- skin irritation and skin dryness,
- general allergic reactions during the use of ointments (rarely).
