Back to a remote location: 5 ideas on how to equip a workplace at home
If you didn’t manage to do this in the first wave of the pandemic, now is the time.
Did you have time to rejoice at the return to the office? Yes, quarantine seems to have been canceled, but it seems that soon it will return to our lives again. So is telecommuting. So an office within the walls of a dear odnushka is a new trend in housing design.
Correctly selected furniture and lighting, as well as competent zoning of the room in which your mini-office will be located, will help you tune in to a working mood and not lose your efficiency during the day. Designer Ksenia Kruglova shared the freshest ideas on this matter.
“Working lying on a sofa or on a bed with a side table is not only unhealthy, but ineffective. You will not be able to get enough sleep where you are used to working, just as you will not be able to be as collected and productive as possible in the place where you are resting. That is why the workspace should be a comfortable, separate place. “
3 home office rules
Work furniture be sure to fit by sizeso that, sitting at the table and pushing the chair firmly in, your legs are bent at the knees at an angle of 90 degrees, and your hands lie comfortably on the table, touching its surface with your elbows. There should be a distance of about the palm of your hand between the table and the legs. Ideal if the desktop is at a slight angle.
The best thing put the table by the windowbut if this is not possible, consider additional lighting sources. If you are right-handed, the light should be on the left side and vice versa. It is advisable that there is no door behind your back, otherwise the incoming will be distracting and disturbing.
Try to organize your workplace away from sources of noise – TV, radio. And preferably away from the place where all family members usually gather for communication, most often the kitchen.
Physical and decorative zoning will help to isolate the workspace.
Physical – it needs walls: capital, temporary plasterboard, false walls, glass stationary partitions and full-fledged doors. Its big plus is noise, sound and light insulation. Minus – the construction of partitions and walls is possible during repair and construction. A little blood is indispensable here.
Decorative the same zoning is created at the expense of interior items, decor, color and light. There are at least five ways to do this.
Partitions
The main trend of 2020 was the zoning of the premises using partitions made of glass, metal and wood.
The most popular of these are wooden slats, which give a sense of air, but at the same time are full-fledged zoning. Their only drawback is the lack of sound insulation.
An interesting solution can be glass slide doors that move along guide rails. They are ideal for a rectangular elongated room: then you can equip a workplace by the window, and put the bed in another part of the room. In the evening and at night, the door slides out, completely closing the bedroom space, and does not allow light and noise to penetrate, and during the day there is not a single obstacle to the sun.
Stationary glass and metal partitions also look very fresh and modern. However, they are suitable for a modern or loft style, not for classics. Such partitions are also sound and lightproof. You can use curtains with them by hanging thick textiles on one side. By opening and closing the curtains, you can change the space with one movement of your hand.
Screens
A very interesting zoning option. Screens can be different: from jalousie doors, carved wood, fabric, with or without painting, varying degrees of density and transparency. Such a thing can look like a full-fledged art object in the interior, while performing a useful function – zoning the room into two parts.
Furniture
The main fashionable idea for today is transforming furniture. For example, a sofa that folds into a wall and a bed emerges from the same wall with a lot of storage systems. Or armchairs that slide into sofas. Or a chest of drawers, the tabletop of which turns into a full-fledged dining table.
The most ordinary furniture will help you to transform the space in an interesting way. For example, the bed can be placed with its back not against the wall, but towards the middle of the room, and on the other side, a sofa can be installed to the same back. Thus, you will divide the oblong room into two spaces: on the one hand it will be a bedroom, and on the other – your office. Alternatively, instead of a sofa, you can put a light rack or even a wardrobe, preferably low so that it does not look heavy. It is even better if it is a chest of drawers or an oblong cabinet on which you can put flowers – it will look very nice.
Color
Zoning works great with color. It is unlikely that we will repaint some area in already repaired housing, but at the stage of renovation, color zoning is very important. And in this case, you can think about the color of the floor, and about the color of the walls, choose suitable color solutions in the interior. For example, the kitchen can be painted white, white tiles can be laid, and the living room can be continued with parquet and pastel shades. These two spaces may not be zoned at all, but it will seem to the eye that we have two full-fledged zones.
It’s best to choose colors for your workspace that won’t hinder your productivity. The most neutral light shades are ideal for this.
World
When performing zoning, you divide it into several different rooms that will be used at different times and with different purposes. Therefore, there should be several lighting scenarios. Mix light and bright, stationary and portable light.
What ideas are better to give up
The main anti-trend is zoning with the so-called “artistic” wall. These are structures made of plasterboard that give a certain hint to the wall. For example, arches, which were once very popular. The previously favorite partitions made of decorative stone and brick are also outdated. Different types of wallpaper in one room have gone out of fashion. The multi-level ceiling has long been outdated. And zoning with a multi-level floor is generally considered a gross mistake, because, without noticing the level, a person can stumble and fall.
