Baby’s development at 10 months: what’s changing
Growth, motor skills, language, sociability… The 10th month is full of transformations and developments for your baby. Overview of baby’s development at the age of 10 months.
Growth and development of the child at 10 months
Your child has grown well: at 10 months, he measures about 75 centimeters and weighs between 8 and 11 kilos depending on the gender and the morphology. On average, until their first birthday, your child gains 250 grams per month. His cranial perimeter measures an average of 46 centimeters.
His progress in gross motor skills gives pride of place to movement: on all fours or crawling, your baby loves to explore every corner of his environment. He is always more skillful and faster, and impatiently awaits to be able to walk. He especially likes you to support his hands so he can stand up.
For now, the 10-month-old gets up by leaning on low furniture, such as chairs, the sofa or the coffee table. In any case, safety measures are essential: put away knick-knacks, sharp or dangerous objects, such as cleaning products.
Your baby is using his hands better and better: he is able to pick up large and small objects. He can press the buttons of his musical games. He also loves to throw things on the ground. Eating with your hands is also great fun for your baby.
Baby’s communication and interaction at 10 months
The 10-month-old child expresses himself through gestures and sounds. He copies the gestures of family members. Baby doesn’t speak at 10 months yet, but can recognize a word in a sentence.
The bath is a great moment of complicity, and baby can be placed directly in the family bathtub, provided that a non-slip mat has been placed beforehand. In the water, your child likes to grab objects, blow bubbles and splash, collect and then pour water: the bath awakens and relaxes him at the same time.
Baby feeding at 10 months
Like the previous month, the tenth month is placed under the sign of food diversification. It is good to make your baby taste new flavors. However, always introduce one new food at a time, so that the child can identify the tastes perfectly. Vegetable purees are still the basis of the diet of the 10 month old child.
To ensure that your baby has a sufficient dose of vitamin C, give him small diced raw vegetables once a day. Make sure to start with tender vegetables, so that he gets used to chewing: carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers… You can vary the fruit compotes: gradually introduce grapes or strawberries, leave more pieces to melt…
Regarding milk, you can switch normally (to be confirmed with your pediatrician) to growth milk from the 10th month. Enriched with vitamin D and vitamin E, this milk is 4 times richer in iron than cow’s milk. You can also give your child dairy products from time to time, such as yogurt. You will find on the market products enriched with calcium, specially designed for children in case of deficit.
The sleep of the 10 month old child
Your child should normally sleep through the night. You need to establish regular schedules, and prepare baby well for sleep with a moment of calm, in a soft and peaceful environment. For your child, every day is a new adventure, and all the discoveries they make every day are very exciting, which is why they may have trouble falling asleep spontaneously. You can help your child by instituting a bedtime ritual, such as dim light, a story you read to them, and a lullaby.
Baby health and care at 10 months
Since the previous month’s medical check-up, there is nothing really new on the baby’s health side. Make sure he is always up to date with his vaccines.
The tenth month is full of progress for your baby, in terms of mobility, feeding and feeling. He begins to test your limits by throwing objects, and watches your reaction. Communicate as much as possible with your child, because even if he does not speak, language does build in his brain.
