Hernias, what are they?

There are two types of hernias that can affect> infants: umbilical hernia and inguinal hernia.

The umbilicus and the ingunal canal are sensitive, vulnerable areas. A hernia occurs when the viscera intrude through the abdominal wall.

Symptoms of a hernia

The hernie inguinale

A hard lump forms in your child’s belly. Clearly visible when your little one is agitated, it often disappears at rest. An ordinary hernia does not cause no pain or discomfort.

This is an intestinal loop that passes through the inguinal canal (which the testes descend to reach the scrotum). In rare cases, a strangulation is possible if excessive pressure occurs on the hernia, which requires an emergency operation.

Umbilical hernia

Like an inguinal hernia, an umbilical hernia is especially noticeable when> Baby is crying or agitated, and is located at the level of Baby’s> navel. After birth, the opening where the umbilical cord is inserted normally closes naturally in babies. Treating a hernia in baby

Attention, in case of strangulation of the hernia:

> Vomiting, sharp pain, hardening and increase in the lump on the abdomen are all warning signs: consult the doctor immediately or take him to the> emergency room

Umbilical hernia

No need to operate Baby! This type of hernia heals spontaneously : the small openings generally disappear within six months, as for the older ones, you have to wait less than two years.
