Your baby’s progress at 2 months
- Gross motor skills
At 2 months, your babytone up more and more. The muscles in his neck and neck are developing and firm up. This will allow your child to gradually hold their head as you support their torso. He also tries to bang objects in his hands against each other.
- Language and understanding
To express themselves, toddlers cry and cry. At the end of the first month, babies start to chirp. They emit vowels like “e” “ae”, before consonants. Your child loves to make conversation with you. When you talk to him, he responds with tweets. And when you smile at him, he often smiles back.
At this stage, your child gradually becomes aware of the regularity of his activities such as bathing, eating and becomes excited when these times approach. He also recognizes some objects, like his bottle and rattle.
- Awakening the senses
At 2 months, hearing and smell are the most developed senses. Your baby recognizes your scent. On the vision side, your little one fixes his gaze on what surrounds him or on large colorful moving objects located at a certain distance. He also likes to stare at you, and when you move in its field of vision, it follows you with its gaze. He also has an interest in familiar faces.
What games for baby at 2 months?
At 2 months, babies love colorful toys and the music. Do not hesitate to sing him songs: he will shake his arms and legs. You can activate a sound rattle in front of him. He will follow him with his eyes.
To gradually establish the bedtime ritual, you can offer your child a music Box with soft melodies. Why not also install a mobile over his bed for his awakening moments. However, do not leave it on all the time so as not to overstimulate it.
Also, don’t forget that your baby loves to be carried. Walk him around the house so thathe discovers the world which surrounds it.
The real first smile appears around 6 weeks. Your baby now recognizes familiar faces and smiles to express his satisfaction, especially when he sees his parents. He also waves his hands and chirps when he’s happy. He also has fun responding to your expressions. If your child enjoys company, he will be upset if you leave him alone. Be aware that toddlers sometimes cry out of boredom: they need interaction and your presence.

Baby’s health at 2 months
This month your baby will grow about 3 cm. Schedule a check-up with the pediatrician or at the PMI to weigh it.
Our advice: at this age it is better avoid supermarkets and transport in common during crowded hours, especially during epidemics of nasopharyngitis or gastroenteritis.
- Vaccines
The vaccinations begin at 2 months. At this age he is recommended that children receive their first injection of DTPP Hib against the following diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, hemophilus influenzae b. Other recommendations: Hepatitis B vaccine and Prevenar, which protects against pneumococci.
Feeding a baby at 2 months
Your baby’s appetite is gradually being regulated. At this age, he drinks exclusively milk. At 2 months, it is first age infant milk. Your baby takes 5 to 6 bottles a day. If you have chosen to breastfeed, you baby is crying out very often. Indeed, you are still in the period of breastfeeding on demand.
At this time, your toddler’s digestion may be difficult: your baby’s crying will alert you. Although we often talk about infant colic, schedule a visit to your pediatrician to find out the exact causes of these discomforts.
At 2 months, vitamin intake is still required. Until 3 months, your baby takes vitamin K. As for vitamin D, it is prescribed until 18 months children.
Your child’s sleep at 2 months
At this stage, the children do not yet make their nights, except for the very lucky parents. There are “heavy sleepers” and “little sleepers”, and depending on their case, your baby sleeps between sixteen and twenty hours a day. Children need time to distinguish day from night and wake up every two or three hours to eat. So do not hesitate to rest also during his naps to regain strength!
To help your child differentiate day from night, your little one can take their morning nap in the living room. On the other hand, in the evening, give him his last bottle or breastfeed him in his room, and in the dark. Also avoid all external stimuli.
Finally, if you are anxious by nature, do not hesitate to invest in a baby monitor, or baby monitor. But beware, no question of using it as a babysitter and leave your child unattended.
