Baby at 10 months

His progress in gross motor skills

At this stage, some babies become real little experts in crawling, and are very fast! Other little ones will walk directly in a few months, without going through the four-legged. They move, for example, by sliding on the buttocks.

The desire to walk also gives wings to some children. For example, your toddler is leaning on furniture to stand up, without your help. Attention: now everything is within reach of your baby. It is therefore time to put away or raise fragile knick-knacks, household products, and fill the medicine cabinet with anti-bump cream.

If you hold both hands, your child will also start to walk. But don’t rush things too much: he still needs to strengthen his back muscles and perfect his balance. Your little one also loves to pull himself up to a standing position and then sit up. Do not hesitate to encourage and congratulate him.

His progress in fine motor skills

By 10 months, your baby is handling large and small objects more appropriately. For example, he shakes a rattle and presses buttons on musical toys. He also likes to throw things on the floor.

Your child can also drink from a cup and loves to use their fingers to eat.

Language and understanding

Even if he doesn’t really articulate understandable words yet, by 10 months, your baby is speaking more and more. He communicates through gestures. For example, he stretches out his arms to be taken. He also continues to copy the gestures of others. And if he hasn’t already, your baby is now saying goodbye and well done.

Know that scientists consider that the child recognizes a word in a sentence, from the age of 8 months. He first retains its sound then around 10 months, this word becomes meaningful.

Your baby’s games at 10 months

At this age, bath time becomes a real moment of pleasure and sharing. It relaxes it as much as it awakens it. Around 9-10 months, you can install your baby directly in the family bathtub. To avoid any accident, provide a non-slip mat and possibly a bath mat. You can also opt for a swim ring. Your baby will have fun splashing and blowing bubbles. Give him a toy with a spout, paddle wheel, cups… he will become a real little engineer.

Out of the water, your little one likes to touch and pat their soft toys. He always enjoys imitation games and stacking rings. You can also start reading picture books to him, which will help him build his vocabulary.

Socializing your baby at 10 months

At 10 months, your baby is still very attached to you. And for some time now, he may be shy towards strangers: he turns away often hiding his face against your shoulder.

Your baby’s health at 10 months

  • His growth

At 10 months, babies measure between 66 and 77 cm. Up to a year, your little one gains 250 g per month. He now weighs between 6,9 and 11,2 kg, depending on his size. As for your baby’s head circumference, which increases by 1 to 2 cm per month up to 12 months, it averages 45,5 cm. At this age, some children may have up to 8 small teeth: 4 upper and 4 upper incisors. Don’t panic if your baby has less, each child evolving at their own pace.

  • Consultation

The second compulsory visit of the 9 months is usually carried out between the eighth month and the tenth month of your child. If you have not taken your baby to the pediatrician last month, make an appointment as soon as possible for this mandatory check-up. The opportunity also to take stock of the vaccination of your little one.

Feeding your baby at 10 months

At 10 months, food diversification continues. Your baby eats like a big one and always loves to “bite” your plate. You can incorporate broccoli and mixed corn into your meals. For vitamin C, now give your little one some raw vegetables. Start with the most tender vegetables: grated carrots, peeled and seeded tomatoes and cucumber. On the sweet side, he can eat compotes of grapes, strawberries and raspberries. You will also see that your child has more or less pronounced tastes for certain foods.

Know that from 10 months, growth milk can replace 2nd age milk, even if you can give it to your baby until he is 13 months old. Growth milk is enriched with vitamins D and E, which are often deficient in children. But above all, it is four times richer in iron than cow’s milk. The latter is also not recommended for toddlers. Although cheaper, it is not suitable for the needs of young children, especially because of its very high protein content. Finally, cow’s milk is poor in essential fatty acids and vitamins.

You can also give your baby plain, calcium-rich, “fortified” or non-dairy products, depending on your baby’s needs.

Your baby’s sleep at 10 months

Establishing regular schedules and preparing for a peaceful sleep can help your baby get a good night’s sleep. Your child’s days are so exciting and rich in discoveries that they can “fall apart” at the end of the day or, on the contrary, be very excited when they are asleep, hence the importance of instituting a bedtime ritual.
