Baby and child in the heat. How to help a toddler?
Baby and child in the heat. How to help a toddler?

Babies and children are particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of heat and sunlight. They do not yet have such a well-developed body response to increased temperature, so their thermostats are slightly disturbed. The child’s body has difficulty maintaining the correct body temperature in the heat. Therefore, you should be especially careful with your children during sunny, steamy, summer days.

Appropriate clothing is essential

It is not worth dressing the child thick and onion. However, you should cover those parts of the body that could be sunburned. It is also very important to remember to cover your head – even a light hat or a cap. This will help you avoid sunstroke.

When choosing clothes for hot weather, you should go for natural fabrics that are easily breathable. It is good to choose linen and cotton. Wool will be too thick, rough and will collect sweat. Synthetic materials will retain heat and will heat up faster.

It is worth making clothes as thin as possible and properly airy. Choose clothes in bright colors. Milky white colors reflect a large amount of sunlight. Dark and black colors attract the sun’s rays and heat up faster.

Babies in hot weather – important head cover!

Particularly when dealing with infants up to three months of age, care should be taken to ensure that the infant always wears a head covering of any kind. The body temperature in this place absolutely must remain at a uniform level. The child must also not be “blown away” by the wind, because even in hot weather it could cause illness.

What you need to know:

  • The greatest risk of sunstroke in children is recorded between 11:00 and 15:00. Then the sun burns the hardest, and the heat flowing from the sky can be dangerous also for adults
  • At home, during hot weather, it is worth ventilating the apartment from time to time, and then closing the windows and covering them with dark curtains. It is also worth using fans and air humidifiers
  • In hot weather, it is worth using light cosmetics that protect children’s skin from the sun

Choosing a place to play

When walking with your child and choosing places to play, it is better to avoid those exposed to direct sunlight. Better to look for a cooler shade. Children get sunstroke very quickly, so it is important to watch the child and not let him stay in the open sun continuously for more than 20-30 minutes.

Interesting places where you can go with children are also all kinds of swimming pools, lakes, bathing areas. The water cools the air around. Both the child and the parents themselves will feel much better around her.
