B-52 cocktail recipe and its preparation technique

Actually, about the very famous cocktail that I mentioned more than once in the article about layered cocktails. I would call B-52 a folk cocktail, since its absence in the bar list of even an ordinary restaurant causes slight bewilderment. What is so unusual about it? Why in every club in the world every minute near the bar is the phrase: “Well, according to the B-52”? In general, further only about him.

The history of the B-52 cocktail

This cocktail is quite young, even if there are 2 versions of its origin. In both of them, the date exceeds the second half of the last century. The first story tells about the appearance of a cocktail in the Keg’s steakhouse bar in Calgary, and dates only to 1977. But the second version sounds more reasonable: the shot was invented in 1955 in the Alice bar, which is located in Malibu. It was in this year that the US Air Force entered the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber-missile carrier (Boeing B-52 Stratofortress). By the way, the main task of this bomber was to deliver two thermonuclear bombs to any point in the USSR (cold war, no matter how). Black Russian, by the way, appeared around the same time.

There is also an assumption that the B-52 recipe appeared during World War II, when bored stationed American pilots did not know what to do in Italy. But no one has been able to confirm this version. All historians prefer history to bombers, I probably do too. More recently, B-52 has been the official cocktail of the IBA, where it is listed in the “New Era Cocktails” category, where until recently Mojitos and other young cocktails could be seen.

B-52 cocktail recipe (shooter, digestif, build)

Innings:

  • shot (shot glass);

Ingredients:

  • 20 ml Kalua;
  • 20 ml Bailey Irish Cream;
  • 20 ml Grande Marnier (orange liqueur).

Preparation:

  • at the bottom of the glass pours Kalua;
  • Baileys is layered with a cocktail spoon;
  • Grande Marnier is placed on top in the same way;
  • the top layer, i.e. orange liqueur, is set on fire;
  • the cocktail is drunk through a straw.

I don’t think this recipe is new to anyone. Many people prefer to drink B-52 without setting it on fire, in one big gulp, but the burning version somehow settled more, because it can be driven into the extreme drinks section, and they are more popular. In general, the combination of coffee, cream and orange liqueurs is very successful, so B-52 also exists in the version of a short drink prepared in a shaker. If you decide to set fire to it, then the tube must be inserted into the glass after arson, when the top layer is slightly warm. The straw may melt, so drink quickly!

Now for the ingredients. Kalua can be easily replaced with Tia Maria or Captain Black liqueur, Baileys is completely unshakable, but Grande Marnier can be confidently replaced with Cointreau. Actually, in all clubs it is preferable to use the following set: Kahlua-Beilis-Cointreau. Of the variations of the cocktail itself, I can single out, or rather I want, only B-53, which each bartender prepares in his own way. Here are just some variations of the B-53:

  • Kalua-Sambuka-Kuantro;
  • Kalua-Baileys-Vodka;
  • Kalua-Baileys-Absent.

The proportions are the same, the cooking process is the same. The version with absinthe is the most popular. In my opinion, enough to have a good rest. Have a good rest, have fun, drink, sing and fly! Read The Rum Diary. Till!
