The history of the mighty Aztec empire and its fall is covered in legends. Mexicans honor the memory of an ancient people. The masters of the Tequilera Newton e Hijos SA de CV company, which produces Azteca tequila, tried to create a drink that would not be ashamed to give the proud name of its ancestors.

The masters of Tequilera Newton e Hijos managed to preserve the strong aroma of fresh agave in all three varieties of Azteca: Silver, Gold and Reposado. Tequila is subjected to double distillation in stainless steel distillation cubes, so it has a delicate smell without alcohol shades and a mild pleasant taste.

In 1940, Enrique Guillermo Newton Alexanderson registered the Supremo y Único Tequila Especial tequila company. Don Enrique was young and full of ambition. But besides him, in the whole wide world only his wife, Olivia, believed in the success of this enterprise.

At first, the couple had a hard time. They did not even have money to hire workers, and therefore Enrique and Olivia packed the first batches of tequila with their own hands. The dwelling in which the Newton family huddled, Enrique jokingly called the badger hole. In 1943 they had a son, Federico Ernesto.

Later, Enrique Newton, a talented tequilero, immortalized memories of his young years in the names of tequila. There were also “Badger Hole”, and “Beloved”, dedicated to a faithful wife and comrade-in-arms, and “The Last Fight” – a symbol of the fight against a deadly disease.

Federico Ernesto Newton Ruiz was barely 20 years old when he was forced to head the company instead of his sick father and make every effort to save it from collapse. Don Federico has succeeded in transforming a small family business into a large enterprise with entirely Mexican capital.

Subsequently, the sons of Federico Newton, Carlos and Federico, joined the family business. In 1989, the company received a new name – Tequilera Newton e Hijos (“Newton and Sons”).

For all Newtons, high quality tequila is a matter of honor. Therefore, it is not surprising that the demand for the company’s products is steadily growing. In the 90s of the XX century, a small distillery La Laja could no longer produce the required amount of tequila. Therefore, in 1994, Tequilera Newton e Hijos built a new plant – Corporativo Destileria Santa Lucia, equipping it with the most modern equipment.

The production facilities of Destileria Santa Lucia make it possible not only to produce tequila of the company’s own brands, but also to take orders from other enterprises. In particular, Tequilera Newton e Hijos makes 901 tequila commissioned by famous singer Justin Timberlake.

In 1997, the company’s tequileros created the Azteca tequila recipe for the reputable alcohol exporter Luxco, inc. The Aztecs considered the agave drink sacred, they drank it only during religious holidays.

Types of tequila Azteca

Tequilera Newton e Hijos produces three varieties of Azteca tequila with a strength of 38%:

  • Azteca Silver is a young colorless tequila with an intense agave aroma and delicate floral and herbal notes. The taste is bright, with a nutty-herbal aftertaste and a long warm aftertaste;
  • Azteca Gold is a golden young tequila with a small amount of cane sugar syrup. The core aroma of agave is emphasized by subtle fruity-floral undertones. The taste is slightly sweet, with a hint of caramel and a refined vanilla-spicy aftertaste;
  • Azteca Reposado is an amber tequila made from 100% agave juice, which is aged for 2-10 months in white oak barrels. The drink is fragrant with baked agave, there are cognac shades in the taste, in the aftertaste a light honey sweetness is balanced by astringent oak bitterness.
