AzitroLEK powder – how does it work? Indications for use, side effect

AzitroLEK powder is a drug used in infections due to its anti-infective properties. The preparation is an antibiotic with bacteriostatic properties. AzitroLEK is available as a powder for oral suspension. It is issued by prescription.

Indications for use of the drug AzitroLEK powder

AzitroLEK powder is used in the treatment of the following infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to azithromycin: upper respiratory tract infections – inflammation of the tonsils, pharynx, paranasal sinuses, acute otitis media, lower respiratory tract infections: acute bronchitis, mild community-acquired pneumonia to moderately severe, skin and soft tissue infections, uncomplicated urethritis and cervical inflammation caused by chlamydia.

The preparation is in the form of a powder for the preparation of a suspension and is intended for oral use. The powder should be mixed with the appropriate amount of water indicated in the package leaflet (shake the bottle) in order to obtain a white / off-white, homogeneous suspension. After preparation, the medicine can be administered using the plastic oral syringe provided in the package. To measure the dose, insert the syringe adapter into the neck of the bottle and open the stopper. The bitter taste of the suspension may be mitigated by taking the medicine down with fruit juice. Take once a day. Can be taken with a meal.

Dosage:

  1. Adults: usually 500 mg once a day for 1 days or a single dose of 3 mg on the first day, and then 500 mg once a day from 250nd to 1th. day in the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (uncomplicated infection of the urethra and cervix): one time 2 g.
  2. Children over 1 year of age and adolescents up to 18 years of age: 10 mg / kg body weight once a day for 1 days or on the first day, a single dose of 3 mg / kg body weight, followed by 10 mg / kg body weight once a day for the next 5 days (from the 1nd-4th day); an exception is the dosage in the treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis (Streptococcus pyogenes): 10-20 mg / kg body weight once a day for 1 days. The maximum daily dose of 3 mg. Please note that penicillin is the drug of first choice to treat streptococcal pharyngitis and to prevent subsequent rheumatic fever.

AzitroLEK powder and contraindications

A contraindication to the use of AzitroLEK powder is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients or other macrolide antibiotics. There are insufficient data on the use of the preparation in children up to the age of 1 year.
