AzitroLEK 500 – action, dosage, contraindications

AzitroLEK is a drug used in gynecology, otolaryngology, as well as in infectious and parasitic diseases. The preparation has a bacteriostatic effect. AzitroLEK is available in tablet form and is available on prescription.

Indications for use of the drug AzitroLEK

The active substance of AzitroLEK is azithromycin, macrolide antibiotic. It is given to treat infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to azithromycin:

  1. upper respiratory tract infections: inflammation of the tonsils, throat, sinuses, acute otitis media,
  2. lower respiratory tract infections: acute bronchitis, mild to moderately severe community acquired pneumonia,
  3. skin and soft tissue infections,
  4. uncomplicated urethritis and cervical inflammation caused by chlamydia.

Dosage

  1. Adults and children weighing more than 45 kg: usually 500 mg once a day for 1 days or on the first day a single dose of 3 mg is used, and then 500 mg once a day from the 250nd to 1th. day in the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (uncomplicated infection of the urethra and cervix): one time 2 g.
  2. Dosage adjustment is not necessary in the elderly.
  3. Adolescents and children weighing less than 45 kg: the tablets are not indicated for use in this patient group. It is recommended to use a different form of azithromycin, e.g. suspension.

AzitroLEK and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of AzitroLEK are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or other macrolide antibiotics,
  2. severe liver failure.

AzitroLEK 500 – restrictions

  1. The use of macrolide antibiotics (including AzitroLEK 500) may rarely be associated with severe hypersensitivity reactions, including reactions that may be life-threatening, such as angioedema and anaphylactic reactions.
  2. If you experience diarrhea during the AzitroLEKlub treatment, do not treat it yourself, but consult your doctor.
  3. Treatment with macrolide antibiotics may cause prolongation of the QT interval on the electrocardiogram and the risk of arrhythmias, including torsades de pointes.
  4. If you have recurring infections, please speak to your doctor as you may need to change your treatment and use a different antibiotic, as directed by your doctor.
  5. AzitroLEK 500 is not recommended for the treatment of infected burn wounds.
  6. Caution should be exercised when using the preparation in patients with neurological or mental disorders.
  7. Pregnant women can use the drug only after consulting a doctor.
  8. It is recommended not to breastfeed while using AzitroLEK 500i for 2 days after the end of its use.

Interactions with AzitroLEK 500

Inform your doctor about taking:

  1. drugs that can prolong the QT interval on the ECG (including class IA antiarrhythmic drugs, e.g. disopyramide and class III drugs, e.g. amiodarone),
  2. terfenadyny,
  3. cyzapryd,
  4. antacids,
  5. ergotamine derivatives (ergot derivatives),
  6. digoxin
  7. cyclosporins,
  8. nelfinawiry,
  9. anticoagulants (coumarin derivatives, e.g. warfarin),
  10. teofiliny,
  11. ryfabutyny,
  12. astemizole, triazolam, midazolam and alfentanil.

AzitroLEK 500 – side effects

While taking AzitroLEK 500, the following may occur:

  1. nausea,
  2. vomiting,
  3. diarrhea,
  4. stomach pain,
  5. flatulence
  6. digestive disorders,
  7. anorexia
  8. constipation
  9. glossitis,
  10. pseudomembranous enteritis (characterized by diarrhea),
  11. increase in liver enzymes or increase in bilirubin
  12. rarely hepatic dysfunction (hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice,
  13. liver necrosis and liver failure
  14. rarely leading to death),
  15. pancreatitis (rare)
  16. headaches and dizziness,
  17. somnolence,
  18. insomnia,
  19. seizures
  20. changes in taste, smell, hearing,
  21. blurred vision,
  22. loss of consciousness,
  23. excessive mobility,
  24. nervousness,
  25. tiredness and weakness (asthenia),
  26. pins and needles and numbness (paraesthesia)
  27. aggressive behavior,
  28. anxiety,
  29. bow,
  30. pain in the chest,
  31. palpitations.
