Azimina three-bladed: growing
Three-lobed azimina is a perennial extratropical tree. It has large glossy leaves and oblong edible fruits. It tolerates the Russian climate well, is not afraid of frost. In some regions, the azimina is called the banana tree and the Mexican banana. Doesn’t require much maintenance. Life expectancy is 30-40 years.
Methods for growing pawpaw
There are two ways to grow a Mexican banana in your garden: seedlings and seeds.
The fruits of the azimine plant taste like banana and persimmon
When landing in a permanent place, you need to know some of the nuances:
- The soil should be loose, slightly acidic.
- Good drainage.
- When choosing a seedling, pay attention to the age of the plant – 2 years is the optimal time for the formation of a healthy bush.
- The distance to the nearest bush should be at least 300 cm.
- Add compost before planting in the hole.
- Make sure the roots are straight.
After all the work has been completed, experienced gardeners strongly recommend mulching the planting site of the seedling. For these purposes, use sawdust or peat.
Mexican banana care rules
When choosing a permanent habitat for a plant, it is necessary to take into account some features. A young bush does not develop well when exposed to direct sunlight. Adult shrubs, on the other hand, love light and warmth. It does not matter whether it is a seedling or a fully mature plant, it must be protected from the wind. Gardeners divide banana tree care into several categories:
- Moisturizing. In the summer, the shrubs need abundant watering. Best done once a week. Otherwise, decay of the root system may occur. In the fall, the plant can be watered once every 2 weeks.
- Wintering. Since the banana tree tolerates severe frosts well, there is no need to cover it.
- Top dressing. The introduction of minerals begins from the second year of the life of the bush. The first feeding comes in mid-April. The ideal mineral fertilizer is a composition that contains nitrogen and phosphorus; it is popularly called Azofos. Manure can be used from natural fertilizers.
- Pruning. This procedure is performed once a year in the spring. At this time, you can form the crown of the tree.
- Pollination. This process must be done manually, especially if there are several pawpaw trees on the site. For manual pollination, you need to remove the pollen from the flowering tree with a clean brush and transfer it to another bush in the same way.
- Transfer. Do not change the location of the tree, as this can kill it. However, if there is an urgent need for this procedure, the transplant must be done by the transshipment method. In this case, you must not damage the root.
Typically, the Mexican banana begins to bloom in late April. The first ripe fruits can be harvested in late summer – early autumn.
With proper care, the azimina will delight with its flowering and delicious fruits for about 35 years.
