Augmentin Es is an antibacterial drug. Augmentin Es is a combined preparation containing a beta-lactam antibiotic in combination with a substance that protects the antibiotic molecules against the damaging effects of bacterial enzymes.

Indications for the use of Augmentin Es
Augmentin Es is used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to penicillin. The drug is prescribed for children after 3 years of age and weighing less than 40 kg.
Augmentin Es – Contraindications
Contraindication to the use of Augmentin Es is hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients or to other beta-lactam antibiotics (other penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems or monobactams). People with jaundice or liver dysfunction caused by amoxicillin or clavulanic acid should also not use this preparation. Augmentin Es is contraindicated in people who have a history of jaundice or liver dysfunction caused by amoxicillin or clavulanic acid.
Augmentin Es – Dosage
- Adults and children weighing more than 40 kg: the preparation is not recommended for use in this group of patients.
- Children and infants after 3 months of age weighing less than 40 kg: the usual dose is (90 mg / 6,4 mg) per kg of body weight per day in 2 divided doses.
- There are no clinical data on the use of the preparation in infants up to 3 months of age and the use of the preparation in this age group is not recommended.
- In patients with impaired renal function, the doctor will prescribe the appropriate dose depending on the degree of renal failure and the severity of the infection: – if the creatinine clearance is higher than 30 ml / min, there is no need to change the dosing schedule, – if the creatinine clearance is less than 30 ml / min, do not it is recommended to use the preparation.
The use of Augmentin Es
Augmentin Es should be taken orally at the beginning of a meal or just before a meal. Prepare the suspension according to the instructions attached to the package. The bottle should be shaken well before each dose.
Augmentin Es – warnings
- Augmentin Es contains aspartame which is a source of phenylalanine. People with phenylketonuria should exercise caution and consult a doctor.
- There is no information on the effect of the drug on the ability to drive and use machines.
- Augmentin Es may change the blood clotting parameters (prolongation of prothrombin time). If you are also taking medications that reduce blood clotting, your doctor will regularly check your prothrombin time.
- Long-term treatment with antibiotics may cause the excessive development of resistant bacteria and fungi.
- If diarrhea occurs during or after treatment, do not treat it yourself, but consult your doctor.
- Augmentin Es may cause a false positive Coombs test.
- This medicine should not be taken by pregnant women, and it should only be used when your doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
- Breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking the drug.
- The use of penicillins has been associated with the risk of a serious, occasionally fatal, hypersensitivity reaction.
Augmentin Es – interactions
Inform your doctor about taking substances such as:
- allopurynol,
- methotrexate,
- oral anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin)
- probencyd,
- oral contraceptives.
Augmentin Es – side effects
Among other things, Augmentin Es can lead to the following side effects: dizziness and headache, slight and transient increases in liver enzymes (AST, ALT), indigestion, skin rash, pruritus, urticaria, erythema multiforme, haematological disorders such as haemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia / neutropenia / agranulocytosis (decreased number of white blood cells, i.e. leukocytes / neutrophils / neutrophils / significant decrease in the number of all granulocytes), prolongation of bleeding time and prothrombin time, bone marrow depression.
