Augmentin 375 mg is an antibacterial drug. A combined preparation containing a beta-lactam antibiotic in combination with a substance that protects the antibiotic molecules against the damaging effects of bacterial enzymes. It is presented as a prescription film-coated tablet.

Augmentin 375 mg – indications for taking
Augmentin 375 mg is a medicine containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid used to treat the following bacterial infections in children and adults: acute sinusitis, cystitis, pyelonephritis, skin and soft tissue infections, especially cellulitis, infections after animal bites, severe periodontal abscesses with spreading cellulitis.
Augmentin 375 mg and contraindications
Attention! Contraindication to the use of Augmentin 375 mg are:
- allergy to any component of the preparation or to other beta-lactam antibiotics (other penicillins, cephalosporins, carbapenems or monobactams),
- jaundice or liver dysfunction caused by amoxicillin or clavulanic acid
- this form of medicine should not be used to treat infections caused by the bacteria S. pneumoniae penicillin-resistant.
Dosage Augmentin 375 mg
If it is necessary to use high doses of amoxicillin (greater than 750 mg per day), Augmentin 375 mg tablets should not be used. pow. (250 mg / 125 mg), as this would be associated with the unnecessary intake of high daily doses of clavulanic acid.
Use orally. Augmentin 375 mg should be taken at the beginning of a meal or just before a meal. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water.
Adults and children weighing more than 40 kg:
Preparation in the form of coated tablets:
- Depending on the doctor’s recommendations, 1 tablet (250 mg + 125 mg) is taken 3 times a day.
In this group of patients, the use of a powder formulation for the preparation of an oral suspension is not recommended.
Children weighing less than 40 kg:
The preparation should be used as an oral suspension.
- In patients with impaired renal function, the doctor will prescribe the appropriate dose depending on the degree of renal failure and the severity of the infection.
- Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment; your doctor will usually check your liver function regularly. Augmentin 375 mg is contraindicated in people who have a history of jaundice or liver dysfunction caused by amoxicillin or clavulanic acid.
- Dosage adjustment is not necessary in the elderly.
Augmentin 375 mg – possible side effects
They can occur: dizziness and headache, indigestion, increased blood transaminases, skin rash, itching and hives. Rarely occur: transient leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, erythema multiforme. In patients with impaired liver function, its condition should be monitored regularly. During long-term use, the kidneys, liver and haematopoietic system function should be periodically monitored.
