Atoris – action, dosage and side effects

Atoris is a drug used in cardiology and the treatment of internal diseases to regulate cholesterol levels. The preparation affects the cardiovascular system. Atoris is available in tablet form and can only be obtained with a prescription.

Indications for the use of Atoris

  1. reduce elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglycerides in adults and children from 10 years of age with primary hypercholesterolaemia (including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia) or with mixed hyperlipidaemia (corresponding to type IIa or Fredrickson’s Ilb classification) if when diet and other non-pharmacological treatments are not effective enough;
  2. the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients who are judged to be at high risk of a first cardiovascular event, together with measures to reduce other risk factors;
  3. adjunctive therapy in homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia in adults.

Dosage of Atoris

  1. In primary hypercholesterolaemia and mixed hyperlipidaemia, therapeutic efficacy is observed within 2 weeks, and maximal response within 4 weeks. In heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia, the dose is individually adjusted and increased every 4 weeks to 40 mg / day. In case of insufficient effect, increase the dose to a maximum of 80 mg / day or use 40 mg / day in combination with bile acid sequestrants.
  2. Initially 10 mg / day, then depending on response and tolerability, the dose may be increased to 20 mg / day. Safety information for children receiving doses higher than 20 mg / day, corresponding to approximately 0,5 mg / kg / day, is limited.

Atoris and contraindications

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevated levels of serum transaminases over 3 times the upper limit of normal,
  3. pregnancy, breastfeeding,
  4. not give to women of childbearing age who are not using effective contraception,
  5. use with caution in case of liver dysfunction.
