Atmospheric pressure is the ratio of the value of the force with which the air column presses against the surface of the Earth (or another planet) to the surface against which the column is pressing. For this reason, there are differences in atmospheric pressure – it is lower in the mountains and higher in the lowlands.

What is atmospheric pressure?

Atmospheric pressure is calculated on the basis of the ratio of the force with which the column of air presses the area against the surface it presses. Atmospheric pressure is thus a general measure of the pressure exerted on a given surface at a given moment by air or another gas.

Atmospheric pressure is given in hectopascals (hPa) or in terms of atmosphere. It is a non-system unit of measurement for pressure, equal to 1013,25 hPa.

How does atmospheric pressure affect the weather?

Atmospheric pressure differences

Atmospheric pressure changes as the altitude of the place where it is measured changes. The pressure decreases as the site elevation increases, and increases as the site elevation lowers. The influence of atmospheric pressure on well-being and health
