Today, healthy lifestyle is in trend. Mass propaganda of physical culture began in Our Country in the late 1920s. Then the first competitions took place. And since then, the government has not turned off the chosen course, realizing that sport is the health of the nation. Even during the Great Patriotic War, relay races were held in Moscow.
When is Athlete’s Day celebrated?
Athlete’s Day 2022 in Our Country falls on 13 August. The date changes every year, as this holiday is traditionally celebrated on the second Saturday of the last summer month. This was decided by the Decree “On Holidays and Memorable Days”, signed in 1980.
history of the holiday
The All-Union Day of the Athlete was established by the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR. This was done in 1939 to promote sports and a healthy lifestyle in the country.
The first holiday took place on July 18. Then every year a new date was chosen for it. And only 12 years later they decided to always celebrate it on the second Saturday of August.
At that time, sport was developing in the USSR at an unprecedented pace. There are many sports clubs. For example, Dynamo, Spartak and others came up with the TRP complex. Spartakiads and competitions were constantly held.
Now Athlete’s Day is still a mass holiday that takes place in most cities. Sports are promoted among all ages through various activities. These are, for example, “All- competitions for schoolchildren”, “Spartakiade of pensioners of Our Country”, etc. About 700 million people take part in more than 80 sports events in our country every year.
Holiday traditions
This holiday in the USSR became the day of the review of the achievements of athletes. Traditionally, it was celebrated with performances by the winners of championships and competitions. One of the brightest significant and especially significant events was the mass parade of athletes. It was attended by about 45 thousand people from all over the country. At first, the parade was held on Red Square, later – at the Dynamo stadium.
In modern Our Country, the day of the athlete is celebrated no less on a large scale. They open new permanent and seasonal sports grounds, hold table tennis tournaments in parks, mini-football competitions, mass trainings with professional athletes, family relay races, drawings of subscriptions to fitness halls, tug-of-war competitions, armwrestling, chess and much more. On Athlete’s Day 2022, various competitions and shows will traditionally be held if public events are allowed.
You can congratulate not only athletes on this holiday, but also physical education teachers, coaches, as well as all supporters of an active lifestyle.
Why do you need a TRP badge
Many have heard the abbreviation TRP, but not everyone understands its meaning. It means “Ready for work and defense.” This is a physical culture and sports complex, which was used in the USSR. It was revived in 2014.
Everyone who passes certain standards receives a special badge. It comes in gold (plated with 999 gold), as well as silver and bronze. The value of the award depends on the results of the tests. Each of the 11 age groups has its own degree of difficulty. They also differ for men and women. You can pass the standards for the TRP badge from the age of 6. There is no upper age limit.
The tests include 13 types of exercises. Among them are, for example, swimming, shooting, running. Some are required, others are optional. Five steps to get a TRP badge:
- go to the site gto.ru and register;
- fill out an application;
- get a medical certificate that you are allowed physical tests;
- pass a theoretical test (question 20 on sports topics);
- pass physical tests.
What does it give? Schoolchildren with a gold TRP sign can be awarded additional points for entering a university, and students can receive an increased scholarship. And for everyone else, it’s just a reason to be proud of yourself. Today, the TRP complex exists in order to motivate people for physical education and a healthy lifestyle.
