Athanasius

Afanasy is a Russian beer brand that has been on the market since 1994. Brewed at the facilities of Afanasy Private Brewery LLC, the brand is distributed by the NikitiN trading company. The assortment portfolio contains 11 sorts of beer. Products are exported to the CIS countries, Lithuania, Estonia. The main sales in the domestic market are in Moscow, St. Petersburg, the regions of Siberia and the Krasnodar Territory.

Historical reference. The appearance of the brand “Afanasy” is associated with a long tradition of brewing in the Tver region. At the end of the 1945th century, thanks to the efforts of the Austrian Emil Slatinsky, a brewery was founded on the banks of the Tvertsa River, called “Tverskoy Bavaria”. A wide range of drinks was produced here, from “Black Velvet” beer to fruit drinks, kvass and fruit waters. During the Second World War, many of the plant’s buildings were destroyed, but by XNUMX the enterprise had started production again.

In the brand’s own history, 1976 was taken as the starting point, when the new Kalininsky plant was put into operation. After 16 years, the company was transformed into a joint-stock company, and the flagship beer was named after the Russian pioneer, Afanasy Nikitin from Tver. The beginning of the XNUMXst century turned out to be very difficult for the company: several attempts were made to raid the plant, accompanied by lengthy legal proceedings.

Having overcome the period of internal contradictions and external interference, by 2011 the company diversified production and began to develop new production markets. Today “Afanasy” has become a diversified holding producing dairy products, meat and fish delicacies, snacks, fruit drinks, and mineralized drinking water in addition to beer.

Types of beer Athanasius

“Athanasius Light”, 4,9%

Light beer of golden-straw color, snow-white foam cap is dense and persistent. The aromatic range is made up of tones of malt, white bread, caramel, tarragon herb. The taste is dominated by a shade of ripe duchesse pear, set off by spicy esters and turning into caramel sweetness. In a long and dry aftertaste, hops are revealed at full power, surprising with an unexpected richness of shades: apricot kernels, bitter almonds, Amaretto liqueur, ginger.

“Athanasius Khlebnoe”, 4,9%

The novelty in the brand line is a variation on the theme of the German Roggenbier. A certified brewer from the Munich Beer Academy was invited to develop the recipe. The recipe uses light barley and fermented rye malt. The drink has a rich chestnut-copper color, dense medium bubble foam. The aroma is refreshing, with kvass sourness and a fruity-caramel component. Characterized by a full and structured body, carbonation is moderate and soft. The taste successfully combines dryness, raisin sweetness, light bitterness, like from a crust of black bread. Well quenches thirst on a hot day, will be an excellent basis for making okroshka.

“Athanasius Unfiltered”, 3,6%

Preparation of water for brewing unfiltered beer is made on German equipment, which ensures the preservation of product quality for two months. The color in the glass is golden yellow, slightly cloudy in the light. Fine-bubble foam is very resistant, creates the feeling of an oxygen cocktail. The aroma is light, with hints of flowers and yeasty freshness. The body is medium-full, with mild carbonation. In a balanced taste, neither hops nor malt stick out, there is a taste of dried fruit compote and an unobtrusive bitterness.

Athanasius Porter, 8,5%

One of the brand’s most popular varieties, brewed at the factory since 1992. It is an example of a classic Baltic porter, but in a brighter interpretation. It is very dark, almost black, with ruby glimpses, color, thick and viscous coffee foam does not fall off for a long time. As the bouquet opens, numerous shades appear in it: caramel, prunes, cherry liqueur, old port wine. Sweet and slightly vinous taste reveals notes of roasted malts, chocolate, raisins, liquorice. The dry aftertaste is remembered with a touch of burnt oak and a noticeable hop bitterness, which is typical for porters. Although the alcohol content of the beer is high, no alcohol tones are felt either in the smell or in the taste.

“Athanasius Experimental Dark Lung”, 4,5%

The brand’s experiment in creating a light and drinkable dark lager, brewed with several types of roasted malts. The color is chestnut, in the light – with a ruby core. When poured into a glass, a fluffy cap of beige-brown foam is formed, the fineness and density of which increases from bottom to top. The body is not too dense, the carbonation is medium. Burnt tones and background sourness are caught in the creamy-chocolate aroma. The taste is characterized by malt, bread and chocolate notes, dryness and hop bitterness gradually increase towards the finish.
