Atecortin (leaflet) – nose and ear application, dosage

Atecortin is a drug used in otolaryngology, ophthalmology and family medicine for bacterial infections and inflammations of the conjunctiva and ear. The preparation affects the organs of vision and hearing, has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-exudative and anti-allergic properties. Atecortin is available as a suspension and can only be obtained with a prescription.

Indications for the use of Atecortin

The active substances of Atecortin are: hydrocortisone, oxytetracycline, polymyxin B. The drug is administered in the local treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, eyelid margins, lacrimal sac, cornea and prophylactically after eye surgeries (about 8-10 days after surgery, after complete scarring of the wound). Atecortin is also used in the local treatment of inflammation of the external auditory canal.

Dosage of Atecortin

  1. In ophthalmology, 1-2 drops are usually applied to the conjunctival sac 2-3 times a day, usually for 7-14 days.
  2. In otolaryngology: 2-4 drops in the ear 3 times a day, usually for about 7 days.

Atecortin a pzeciwwskazania

Contraindication to the use of Atecortin suspension are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. fungal conjunctivitis,
  3. viral diseases (herpes, chicken pox, viral retinitis or keratitis),
  4. primary glaucoma,
  5. eye tuberculosis.

Atecortin – warnings

  1. Atecortin is a preparation intended for external use only (locally to the conjunctival sac or the ear).
  2. The drug should be used under the supervision of an ophthalmologist or otolaryngologist.
  3. Do not use Atecortin for more than a week. Prolonged use of antibiotics may cause overgrowth of resistant bacteria and fungi.
  4. If inflammation occurs – do not use the drug.
  5. Do not use Atecortin for the ears if perforation of the tympanic membrane has occurred.
  6. The suspension should only be used in children when the doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
  7. Temporary visual disturbances may occur immediately after administration of the preparation to the eye.
  8. It is not recommended to use the drug while breastfeeding.
  9. Pregnant women may use the preparation only if the doctor deems it necessary.

Atecortin – interactions

There was no interaction of Atecortin with other preparations.

Atecortin – side effects

Taking Atecortin may cause: tearing, burning, irritation, itching around the eye, rarely allergic reactions. Prolonged use (3-6 weeks or more) may cause secondary fungal infections, increase IOP, and may lead to steroid-related cataracts.
